EPL News: Defoe to be back for Derby with Arsenal
Tottenham’s star striker Jermain Defoe has been out for what seems like forever now. The player picked up an injury to his ankle, while he was away on international duty for England. Defoe was tackled down while facing Switzerland and
was then stretchered off the pitch; it was later revealed that the striker had torn his ankle ligaments.
He was initially reported to be out of action for around three months, however he is currently looking to make a much earlier than expected comeback and is hoping to be back in action for the team’s North London derby with is scheduled
to take place on the twentieth of November this year.
The striker is looking to make a surprise early come back in hopes of making the short trim from White Hart Lane to the Emirates.
The player was reported to have said: "I'm looking at two more weeks out before I am back training properly.
"I'm feeling great and it has gone better than expected."
Defoe has been missing for Tottenham for nearly two months now and the team has greatly felt his absence upfront. Despite not doing so bad domestically and in Europe, the team still hasn’t been performing as good as it potentially can
and this is mainly because of the fact that the team’s current strikers, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko, just don’t seem to bring the same thing to the table that Defoe can.
Defoe has tremendous pace, excellent ball control and the ability to be an aerial threat without being one of the tallest players in the world thanks to his outstanding agility.
If Defoe does manage to make it back before the end of the year, than Tottenham could potentially end 2010 with a position in the top four in the Premier League, along with a comfortable qualification for the knock out stages of the Champions
League.
On the other hand Defoe would personally be looking to be fit for the North London Derby against Arsenal so that he could perform to his best in the game and prove to the team’s fans that he is back with a bang. Harry Redknapp is also
well aware of the quality that Defoe brings to the table and is currently looking forward to the player making his comeback as soon as he possibly can.
That being said a return for Defoe could also prove to be crucial to the England national side, who are currently set to miss out on Wayne Rooney for the next three months and could really use a quality striker to help out with the teams
qualification process for the Euro 2012.
