EPL News: Emile Heskey ruled out due to injury
Struggling Aston Villa have been handed another major let down, due to the fact that one of the team’s star strikers Emile Heskey picked up an injury during the team’s training session on Wednesday. The striker will now require an operation
that will rule him out of action for three to four weeks.
Heskey managed to tear his medial meniscus in his right knee during a training session on Wednesday. He is due to undergo extensive surgery which will rule him out for as many as five games for Aston Villa.
The former England international has already managed to score three goals in the six games he has player under the team’s new manager Gerard Houllier and has been constantly labelled as the manager’s favourite striker.
Along with Heskey, the team is also going to be missing Gabriel Agbonlahor, who has been on a long term injury concern for the team. With two of the three strikers in the team out due to injuries, the only forward that the team is left
with is John Carew.
Carew has so far this season been a former shadow of himself and is clearly not the player on whom to rest the teams fate in upon. With a situation like this the midfielders of the Lions will have to step up.
Houllier will have to put some serious thought into what to do in the future, he might even have to go as far as opting for Ashley Young to play as a supporting striker or as a speedy second striker. Young has the pace and the ability
to find the back of the goal which would make him an easy fit in for those positions. However having never played as a standalone striker in the past, the player might not have the awareness that a striker needs in front of goal, which would only mean that
despite being as good as he is he still isn’t what the team really needs.
If Houllier can manager to make Carew regain the form that he has displayed in the past, then the coming month or two won’t be of any great concern to Villa, however if the player fails to find his form in front of goal, then Villans should
embrace themselves for some rather dark times up ahead.
