EPL News: Full Time Report Birmingham vs. Chelsea – Birmingham defeat Chelsea despite being dominated
Chelsea travelled away from home to take on Birmingham after suffering a shock three goals to nil loss at home, at the hands of Sunderland. Chelsea were looking to bounce back from that defeat and go on and crush the home side.
However going into the game Chelsea were going to be without the likes of John Terry and Frank Lampard. Terry recently revealed that he was suffering from serious nerve related injuries and needed to get treatment done before he could
continue. On the other hand Lampard still had not managed to recover from his hernia operation and was out of action for yet another week for the Blues. There was some good news however as Alex despite being ruled out for several months was back in the side
and rearing to go at it.
The match kicked off with Chelsea taking a hold of things and with the opportunity to go five points clear at the top of the table, since Arsenal had just lost their match prior to Chelsea's kick off.
Nonetheless despite all their domination it was Birmingham who took the surprise lead in the game. Lee Bowyer managed to rush into the Chelsea box to meet a brilliantly placed deep cross from Larsson. However that goal was courtesy of
a brilliant lay off by Jerome. The Birmingham forward managed to dink the ball into the path of the rushing Bowyer via his head and the forward had the simplest of tasks to smash the ball into the back of the net.
So on the seventeenth minute it was Birmingham who went one goal up against the run of play.
Chelsea almost managed to equalize via the head of Drogba, but the forwards brilliantly timed and placed header came back off the wood work. All hope was not lost as the ball fell into the feet of Ramires, however the Brazilian managed
to gaze his shot well wide from point blank range.
The first half ended with the score at one goal to nil in favour of the home side. As the second half began it seemed like Chelsea might finally get something out of the game, however the team were left highly frustrated in the second
half as well. Chelsea had an array of chances but for some reason, just couldn't seem to find the finishing touch in front of the goal and as a result the game eventually ended with Birmingham taking the surprise win despite being dominated for so long in
the game.
