EPL News: Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard on his way to Manchester United
Manchester United are on the verge of if they haven't already completed the signing of goal keeper, Anders Lindegaard. The keeper who was formerly the number one choice at Norwegian side Aalesunds FK, had recently become the prime target for the Manchester
based team and recent events have lead people to believe that the player is already a part of the United side.
This past Thursday the Aalesunds FK's official website accidentally posted that the keeper had completed a deal to join the Red Devils and was now subject to a medical. The team didn't hesitate after taking the news off their websites only minutes after
accidentally posting it up.
However there is more to the story than meets the eye. The keeper is believed to have been heavily pursued by United for the simple reason that the team see him to be the 'new Schmeichel.' Schmeichel has easily been the best keeper to ever wear the red United
strip in the past, but the former United number one strongly feels that Lindegaard, isn't the smartest choice for the team.
The keeper is reported to have said: '"We are talking about Manchester United here"
'"You can look at young talent, you can look at young, good players. You don't want that. You want someone who can go in straight away and give performances in 80 per cent of the games the No 1 keeper will play for Manchester United.
'"Too many goalkeepers have been in and out of the doors. Now, for this team to win trophies, that position has to be someone who is of the very, very highest quality but also with the right experience."'
The former world number one clearly feels that United should have opted to land a more renowned and well known keeper instead of the Norwegian that they have opted for.
However Alex Ferguson defied critics in the past when he went ahead and signed Schmeichel in the past, despite him not being a well reputed name in the world of football, however once the keeper did arrive at the club, it is safe to say he made history.
Ferguson will strongly be hoping to repeat the same success with Lindegaard as well.
