EPL News: Gomez thinking of Wembley as Kompany says he is happy at City
Heurelho Gomes, the Tottenham goalkeeper has come out and admitted that he is thinking ahead of the UEFA Champions League final at the Wembley stadium in May, 2011. Tottenham recently secured their progress to the round of sixteen of the European Cup after
they won their latest group stage match against Werder Bremen. Hotspurs play their next UEFA Champions League match against F.C Twente, but that game will be of little significance.
In the post-match press conference, Gomez was asked whether he was looking forward to the pen-ultimate of the tournament, should Tottenham make it there. The Brazilian goalkeeper said, “A little bit. The next step is Twente first and then, of course, we
need to be prepared for the next one. For the English teams, it is so special when you play at Wembley."
The win against Bremen which also contained a clean sheet for the Spurs was a historic one for the London club. The clean sheet was the first one for the English team after 17 games; Gomez was in buoyant mood during the interview as he said jokingly, "Finally!
Of course not; the most important thing for me is winning. It's a great feeling after you keep a clean sheet but you just try to win games."
Gomez was confident about Tottenham’s chances in the UEFA Champions League’s knockout stages, as he said, “If you want to go far, to be the best, you need to fight anyone." Spurs who play Liverpool at the weekend have a hectic scheduled coming up, Gomez
went onto conclude by saying, "It's busy, busy, and busy. It gives us a lot of confidence for another big game."
Manchester City’s defender has come out and defended his team against criticism that has been published in the British media. Vincent Kompany said, "We are professionals and we are clever enough to know that not a lot is going to be given to us. I don't
feel anything when I see the criticism. We have big players and strong characters in this team and it is probably part of what we have to go through this season.”
He added, "In the end, we are just 18 individuals coming together to play a game on a Saturday trying to pull at the same string."
City won their last league game against Fulham in London, despite the fact that their ex-manager was managing Fulham. Manchester City’s defender said, "Ever since I joined City things have been going quite well for me. I have kept improving. But if I played
well at Fulham then I expect to do just as well, or even better, next week. That is the attitude I go into a game with. I was 22 when I came here. I am 24 now. It is normal that I am a bit better than I was at first."
