EPL News: Hodgson, Torres, Reina give no hope of revival to Liverpool fans- demand time and lowering of expectations this season (Part 2)
Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson is reminding everyone of his promise to knock Liverpool off their perch and win even more titles then them.
Liverpool are only a title short to become the club with the most titles in EPL. This Sunday there would be a crucial match which is deemed as the mother of all matches between Liverpool and Manchester United. This match at Old Trafford will be a real test
for the Reds to prove if they still have what it takes to be one of the top football clubs in the world.
The Red Devils on the other side have even sacrificed a draw in their Champions’ League opener by not playing their stars in the team as it risked them for the match at home. The hype created around the match is intensifying each day but still players like
Fernando Torres and Jamie Carragher are time and again asking the fans not to get their hopes up this season as the club is on a survival mode.
The new ownership of QSL could have changed all this but that did not happen. It is said that QSL had offered the same amount as Liverpool’s debt of 350 million pounds. Liverpool’s current management had some reservations of their own and one of them was
the question as to where was QSL getting their funds from.
Just when the deal was about to be signed, the Anfield board got to know that the Chinese company had asked for a gigantic loan from Royal Bank of Scotland. This lead to the suspicion that QSL himself might not be in a good financial state. Therefore, the
idea of club sale to them was rebuked. With this, the fans became even more anxious about the once glorious club who had gone from becoming one of the greatest football powerhouses on earth to a demeaning one.
Earlier in the summers, the under-pressure Liverpool board had sacked their manager Rafael Benitez, who had joined the Merseyside from Valencia in 2004. After spending the last 5 years without any major silverware, the club decided that his time had come.
Benitez was replaced by the Fulham’s manager, Roy Hodgson, who last season had taken the men from Craven Cottage to an unprecedented run when they reached the final of Europa League, only to be beaten by Spanish club, Atletico Madrid in the end.
The 62-year-old Hodgson is a man who knows how to control a club which is under budgeted. Upon his arrival at Merseyside, he was successful in containing those players who were on the verge of leaving Liverpool. These included Steven Gerrard, who was about
to make a move to Real Madrid and also Fernando Torres, who had bids up to 70 million pounds flying in from all around the globe.
