EPL News: Lazio sign Javier Garrido while Boaz Myhill  moves to West Bromwich Albion
Italian club Lazio have officially signed Manchester City left back Javier Garrido, for an undisclosed fee. City have signed Lazio left back Aleksandar Kolarov, and Garrido is going to be a like-for-like replacement. Garrido didn’t feature in that many matches owing to Wayne Bridge and Kolarov is expected to make it to the first team. The player only managed to play 9 matches last season who scored only one goal.
The player was frustrated due to lack of first team opportunities. The Spanish joined Manchester City back in 2007 which is one of the first players to face the axe. City bolsters a huge squad at the moment who are looking to reduce the size by at least thirteen players. Garrido made a total of 54 appearances since his joining some three years ago and has scored two important goals. The 25-year-old previously played with Real Sociedad but has failed to leave an impression with Manchester City.
Lazio’s President confirmed the news, stating that Garrido has officially joined the club. The President added that the player was under his radar for quite some time and was the first his choice replacement for the departing Kolarov. Garrido has been hugely impressive with his former club and was considered to be one of the very best in the field. The player had speed, agility and vision and was a perfect left back. City, however, failed to utilize his undeniable talent, and chose to pick big names like Wayne Bridge and newly signed Aleksandar Kolarov. Javier was a well known set piece taker, and scored his first goal for City from a direct free kick against Liverpool.
Manchester City will off-load many talented performers owing to the new EPL rules. A 25-man squad is to be announced by 1st September, of which eight players have to be from Britain. Manchester City houses a 38-man squad which is why it is expected to release a number of its foreign players. Many premier league clubs and European clubs would be waiting outside Manchester City to snap one of these players. Many big names like Robinho, Stephan Ireland, and Craig Bellamy are expected to face the axe, and all the clubs would be interested in signing such high profile players. City has gone on a spending spree yet again, signing David Silva, Jerome Boateng, Yaya Toure and Aleksandar Kolarov in the process. They have already spent 75 million pounds on these signings, and look to add Mario Balotelli, James Milner and Fernando Torres.
In other news, goalkeeper Boaz Myhill has completed a switch to West Bromwich Albion from Hull City. The goalkeeper has signed a three-year deal with West Bromwich, and his situation will be analyzed after three years to offer him a one-year extension.
The goalkeeper successfully passed the medical test on Friday with his new club, and is happy to join the Hawthorns. Myhill is a Welsh international, and looks to fight for his spot with Scott Carson. Myhill failed to get first term opportunities with Hull City and the manager is happy with the new inclusion.
Manager Roberto Di Matteo stated that he was happy to welcome the goalkeeper who added that Myhill signed at a good age who is one the most talented keepers in the EPL. Di Matteo added that the keeper has had a good history, and has fully become accustomed with the premier league. Playing in the premier league itself is a huge challenge and many of the top players in the world have failed to fully adapt.
"I'm sure he will fit nicely into our goalkeeping department,” stated the manager. Since joining Hull back in 2003, the player has made 257 appearances for his previous side. The keeper is strong and agile, and with a height of 6 foot 3 inches, he looks like strong wall in the goal post. The player is a good inclusion to West Bromwich, a club which is looking to prolong its stay in the English Premier League.
