EPL News: Liverpool News - Hodgson Hopeful Cole To Return Against Tottenham
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said in an interview that Joe Cole was expected back in action this weekend to face Tottenham Hotspurs. He praised his medical team for their pre-training exercises that have noticeably reduced soft tissue injuries.
Hodgson said, “You've got to pay credit to the medical team. With Steven [Gerrard] the muscle injury was not one provoked by us. Daniel [Agger's] is an unusual injury which could have come at any time and Jay Spearing was unfortunate in that he fell
awkwardly - that could have happened at any time.”
The Liverpool boss was pleased with his new medical staff and admitted that the injuries has reduced considerably, he added,
“The medical staff have done extremely well with the soft-tissue injuries and we're suffering, touch wood, from very few of those pulls or strains.”
He continued, “Credit to the players - they're buying into the ideas and all the work we do to prevent injuries at the start of every day. It's relatively time consuming but they've bought into it well and it seems to be paying off.”
Captain Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for three-four weeks after a hamstring injury he picked up at Wembley during England’s 2-1 defeat to France. Hodgson said that his captain was “anxious to get back” to the pitch as soon as possible.
He was confident that Gerrard was back as soon as he recovered, he said, “He's not letting any dust settle but I don't think there's so much he can do at the moment. First of all he has to let the injury quieten down and then really start to work on
it.”
He said while speaking about the former Chelsea player, “I think Joe Cole should be back again for the weekend. He had a good training session on Monday and was recovering from that on Tuesday. He will train with us again on Wednesday.”
Leader of the Reds has time and again been the saviour of Kop therefore his inclusion in team is vital for Liverpool if they want a Champions League spot this season leave alone the race for the title.
