EPL News: Liverpool Striker Fernando Torres injury confirmation, manager Roy Hodgson declares Scouse to buckle up for comeback (Part 1)
Liverpool’s beloved player ‘El Nino’ has injured himself once again. Officials from the club have confirmed that the 26-year-old Spanish striker Fernando Torres has pulled his muscles and there is a strong possibility that he will be ruled out for the upcoming
matches.
Officials at the club have also revealed that he might not be able to make his comeback before Liverpool’s derby match against Everton. The age old rivalry between them has never been so intense in decades as Liverpool and Everton both face one of their
worst performances in recent times.
This will be one of the most important Merseyside derby match in years as this will not just determine which club in the Merseyside is better but would place one team into the relegation zone and the other clear of it in the top half of the table.
The reason for that is intense competition in the English Premier League this season. The quality of the English League has increased and therefore this has caused in a greater distribution of points and more draws.
This means for teams that have to perform on the basis of their key players need consistent performances so that their teams can continue with a successful campaign.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, a worse scenario compared to last season seems to be in progress. However this is just part of the story; there is a strong chance that they might actually be relegated if they are not able to clear their debts. This emphasizes
that a good performance to end this season is vital if the club wants to succeed in future.
Liverpool will need the services of their wonder boy Torres more than ever and in quick time. The latest news of him has confirmed that the coveted forward has strained his adductor muscle.
The medical team has informed that his injury is similar to the one he had during FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In the dying moments of the final against the Netherlands which Spain eventually won, Torres pulled muscles in his leg and his old groin
injury resurfaced. He was out of play for 3 weeks and his comeback for play took an increased time of around 5 weeks.
In the match against Blackpool which Liverpool lost at home, Fernando Torres was substituted early in the game because of an injury. The final score was 2-1 and it clearly saw what the absence of Torres will be like for Liverpool.
Just 10 minutes into the game and the prized striker staggered of the field and David N’Gog started playing at his position. After the match, Reds manager Roy Hodgson informed that he had no idea about how severe El Nino’s injury was. The general idea that
was put forth was that he had a reawakening of some old injury.
Torres has also withdrawn from the Spanish national team before another round of qualification matches in Euro 2012. Spain will be facing Lithuania and Scotland.
Reports from the medical team have given a first picture of Torres’ injury and it seems he will make a quick recovery. Scans and examination of the player that took place at the Melwood training ground this Monday brought a final report that is being evaluated.
It has been confirmed that the player is being scheduled for further examinations and has been immediately lined up for the healing and rehabilitation process.
The head of sports medicine and sports science at Liverpool FC, Dr. Peter Brukner stated, “Fernando was assessed earlier today at Melwood and underwent a scan this afternoon.”
On Torres’ comeback and his chances to play in the Everton match, Brukner commented, “He will have intensive treatment over the next couple of weeks but it is too early to say if he will be fit for the game against Everton.”
