EPL News: Liverpool Striker Fernando Torres injury confirmation, manager Roy Hodgson declares Scouse to buckle up for comeback (Part 3)
Despite the poor position Liverpool are in, Hodgson confidently stated, “With 31 games left to play I am absolutely convinced Liverpool will not be in the bottom three after 38 games. Whether or not this bad start is going to affect us in our ambition
to be nearer the top of the table that is another matter. That is something you can accuse us now of not being able to do. But I think to suggest, especially after seeing what we did in the second half against Blackpool, that we are a relegation candidate
would be stretching credulity to the limit.”
Liverpool’s star attacking midfielder Dirk Kuyt has also stated that he believes the Merseyside is about to witness a strong comeback. He said that Liverpool had the full capability to win titles and tournaments.
The Dutch star said that he considered Liverpool to be one of the favourites in Europa League. He commented that Liverpool had enough talent to win the Cup and to make a comeback in football in an astonishing manner.
He asked the disappointed Liverpool fans that have been lambasting against Torres to give him a break. The 32 year old winger expressed that Torres puts his heart out in the field when he plays for Liverpool and his passion lead him back to the club, so
the Scouse should honour him with respect.
This summer before the season started there was a strong possibility that Torres might be making a 70 million pound move to Chelsea, Manchester City or Barcelona. This presented with a possibility of most expensive English transfer ever.
In the end, the matter was left half axed as new manager Hodgson was able to convince Torres to stay and help Liverpool make its comeback.
Kuyt, who was also a star for Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup assisted the team with highest number of passes in the tournament. Netherlands eventually went onto battle with Spain in the final but in the last moments a goal from Barcelona player Andres
Iniesta destroyed the chances of Dutch getting their first World Cup after two previous chances.
Kuyt said that he reckoned Reds still had what it takes to be the champions, “I've still got the belief we can win trophies. It's obviously been four years now that I haven't won trophies at Liverpool. Sometimes in football you can be very close and that's
what's happened to me and my team-mates. We came second in the Premier League and lost a Champions League final.”
He articulated that all Liverpool needed to do was to believe in themselves.
