EPL News: Liverpool interested in Johan Elmander
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is believed to be interested in signing Bolton striker Johan Elmander in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old Swede’s contract expires at the end of the current season and it has been rumoured that that he had turned down a one year extension on his current contract amid rumours that host of European clubs are chasing the Swedish
international.
Johan Elmander arrived at Bolton from French side Toulouse in 2008 and was rumoured to have cost Bolton around €9.6 million. Under former Bolton coach Gary Megson, the Swede was considered a flop and spent most of the 2008-09 season sitting
on the bench and never really settling down with the pace of the English game. Before the arrival of current coach Owen Coyle, Johan Elmander was considered a big flop and was rumoured to be off-loaded by the end of the season but following the sacking of
Gary Megson and the arrival of Owen Coyle from Burnley, the Swede found his form and his recent renaissance in the Premier League this season has seen Elmander become a Bolton favourite.
Bolton are currently sitting at 6th in the Premier League with 23 points and Johan Elmander has been the catalyst for such a successful start to the Premier League this season for the Lancashire side. The Swede
has already scored 8 goals and has provided 4 assists and is now an absolute guarantee in the starting XI for Owen Coyle’s side.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson initially tried to sign Johan Elmander during his time at Fulham but the Swede decided to join Bolton back then. But now, Hodgson is expected to be given ample amount of transfer kitty by the new owners and
he will try to lure the striker to Anfield in a big money move. Sammy Lee, Roy Hodgson’s assistant at Liverpool and the manager himself watched the striker play against Blackpool on Saturday in the Reebok stadium where Johan Elmander helped his side salvage
a point after going 2-0 down against the high flying new comers.
