EPL News: Liverpool to sign Manchester City forward Shaun Wright-Phillips for £5 million
The latest news from Anfield is that Liverpool’s men in suits are interested in signing the Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
It is speculated that an informal bid of five million pounds has been put up for the forward so that he can play for the Kop in the remaining part of this season.
Earlier rumours have also been confirmed that the Reds are eager to see through the transfer of Roque Santa Cruz from the Eastlands and as Manchester City is not willing to keep him at the Blue side of
Manchester, the probability is high for him to be part of the Scouse.
With the January transfer window approaching fast, and the player market ruined by rash and imprudent transfers mainly by Real Madrid and Manchester City, Liverpool is forced to make cheap transfers; therefore,
if these players arrive at Anfield, Liverpool will be marked again with a good haul in the transfer window, at least in comparison to the their financial condition.
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson managed some pretty good signings earlier; therefore, the question now is whether he can work his mojo again.
The new owners of Liverpool, NESV (New England Sports Ventures), headed by John W. Henry, have relayed their concern for the club’s future. Nonetheless, they earlier stated that the club will not be gifted
an extra large sum to finance new blood into the club.
Now, however, Henry is concerned with the future of the club and has assured Hodgson that he will be compensated so that the Merseysiders can compete on a better scale in the English Premier League.
29-year-old Shaun Wright-Phillips is one of the most speculated players to make a transfer this season; not just because of his form, but because the player would be bid out at a price much lesser than
expected.
Sources have confirmed that the ex-Chelsea midfielder has just a year left on his contract, so a low fees and considerably smaller transfer cost would speed up the negotiation process.
This is not the first time Liverpool is linking itself to the English International, Shaun Wright-Phillips; in 2005, Spaniard Rafael Benitez, who is now managing at Inter Milan, tried to lure him to the
Red part of Merseyside.
