EPL News: Liverpool versus Sunderland 2 – 2 draw; Analysis and Future Predictions (Part 1)
The Reds skipper Steven Gerrard was his team’s 11th hour Samaritan once again when he rescued the Merseyside from a shameful defeat which could have Liverpool’s 100% non-defeat record against Sunderland in tatters.
While Sunderland’s away campaigns continue to be disastrous as ever, this match proved to be a real test for their luck when they gave away a notorious goal and then got one back proving what goes around comes back around.
Nevertheless the match that had been lost by Liverpool was eventually levelled by the charismatic 30 year old Steven Gerrard. It was the world class English midfielder that scored the last goal, much to the relief of Anfield faithful.
The end score of the match was 2 – 2 as Sunderland scored two goals to in the middle of the match to take the control of the fixture, but still owing much to the irrational mistakes made by the Liverpool team.
Though the Reds displayed an attacking and impressive game play all round this happened to be yet another rash draw against a mediocre team. As a matter of fact Liverpool did go in to the bout with their full team.
However the most controversial man on field was part of neither teams, but still it seemed that he loved to score a goal more than Liverpool’s Fernando Torres, the goal machine. It was the match referee Stuart Attwell who gave
away two contentious goals; each to a team.
The end result of the erratic match therefore was a draw with two goals apiece. Travel back a few years and memories will reminiscence that this was the same referee that gave away the infamous “ghost goal” in the Championship.
The referee allowed Scouse’s Dutch star Dirk Kuyt who had the most completed passes in the FIFA 2010 World Cup, a goal to open the account of the match after he told off Michael Turner that he had technically taken his free kick
when he back heeled the ball to goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
For Sunderland it was Darren Bent who once again provided his one man show for the team to take them into a respectable away draw. He struck a penalty that was given away irresponsibly by the Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen.
Nevertheless it was Gerrard’s goal that came from a superb header in the game that created all the hype for the Kop loyal. It happened when Gerrard headed on a cross from Fernando Torres to gain a single point. Now Liverpool has
played 6 matches in the English Premier League and produced 6 points being at the 15th
place.
The manager of Liverpool Roy Hodgson had stated that the Reds will not be pressured or talk about their recent campaign of unsuccessfulness. He told media that he will not comment on Liverpool’s defeat to a League two team in Carling
Cup when the team was defeated on penalties by Northampton during the last week.
Nonetheless Hodgson has advocated his team saying that his first XI were almost as bad as they were, it would really take a man with good experience of puns to understand which pint was Hodgson emphasizing here on.
Liverpool’s performance graph has been on the downfall since the start of last season, where in the end they finished at the 7thposition. So far now Liverpool isn’t even expected to be lucky enough to finish at that
position.
