EPL News: Liverpool versus Sunderland 2 – 2 draw; Analysis and Future Predictions (Part 3)
It was Nedum Onuoha with a moment of brilliance from the right wing as he crossed the ball totally dumbfounding Glen Johnson, who it seemed was reading the inscriptions on the ball. Bent got hold of it from there and he was already
on fire in the evening so no mistakes were expected from him. In the end no mistakes were made by him as glanced the ball strongly in to the far post.
His finish was so flawless that even the lightening reflexes of Reina couldn’t work, as he simply stood there astounded at the ball in the net. There was also a scuffled clearance then which went straight to Jordan Henderson who
had a chance to score off the mistake but was unable to in the end with a poorly angled long ranged shot.
At this point Torres was highly anguished and that resulted in a rash challenge at Onuoha. Lucky for him, the referee had some sympathy and he was only given a yellow card, but before leaving he did not waste the chance of expressing
his distaste.
Hodgson did seem wise when he at last replaced the disappointed defensive midfielder Poulsen with forward David N’Gog. He did so by fielding Meireles at a backward position and placing Kuyt on the right wing.
However the match was slowly and dismissively moving away from Liverpool. It was then that Torres and Gerrard both started slacking a bit and drew themselves backwards.
Torres eventually had an epiphany to try himself on the wing which worked. He thwarted Bardsley on the right side of the field along the touchline while swinging to place an amazingly controlled cross that ultimately Gerrard headed
into the near post.
The English international was then dismissed by the referee when he was tackling unjustifiably to Welbeck in his face with a swinging arm. Soon after that the match became much more intense and Anfield heated up the whole Merseyside.
It seemed that Liverpool had reawakened their desire for a victory. N’Gog officiated the process by forcing Mignolet, Kuyt to make a difficult save by bending over but the shot was inches wide and Turner’s presence then cleared
the ball.
It was N’Gog again a few minutes later and this time it was Daniel Agger who headed the ball wide. Tons of efforts were made by the Scouse but all efforts seemed to go in vain.
Still the draw was better than a loss for Liverpool with the whistle of the referee sealing the match. The result did little to increase the budding sentiments of dissatisfaction in the environment in the Kop area.
This match at last also showed fans raising banners against the detested American owners of Liverpool Tom Hicks and George Gillett. Though the club is in a severe financial crisis, the main problem that resides at Anfield are the
current owners who have made naive decisions and are unwilling to invest in the club.
Under the current performance it can be easily stated that if Liverpool ever wants to be a part of Champions League again they will have to up their game a lot. For now experts believe that there is a very strong possibility that
the Reds will not appear in the Champions League for the next two years.
Sunderland on the other hand just keep on improving. They have increased their sources for capital and have made really good signings. They certainly have signings like Asamoah Gyan and that seems to be working for them. Also the
players have been practising harder than ever which can be seen in their form.
