EPL News: Manchester City Target Edin Dzeko and Dani Alves
Recent reports suggest that Edin Dzeko, the Wolfsburg striker and Barcelona’s Dani Alves are at the top of Roberto Mancini’s list of transfer targets in the upcoming January transfer window. Sources reveal that Manchester City officials
travelled to Abu Dhabi to discuss the budget available for transfers with the club owners.
Manchester City had targeted the two players over the summer but failed to bring them over to Eastlands. Roberto Mancini’s side have been linked with Edin Dzeko, especially following the unrest within the squad. The Italian manager is
determined to have another striker, along with Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli.
Dzeko is one of the hottest young players in Europe, the 24-year-old has made his mark in the Budesliga; being one of the regular top scorers for two seasons. This season he has already scored eight goals and does not show any signs of
slowing down. Mancini is aware that Dzeko would make a fine addition to his squad and is determined to acquire his services.
The second target is Dani Alves, the 27-year-old Barcelona right back. Alves joined the Spanish side in 2008 from Sevilla, he is considered one of the best attacking defenders in the world. It comes as no surprise that the 27-year-old
was nominated for the Ballon D’Or in 2010.
He has an impressive record with Barcelona, since arriving at the club he has won the league twice and the coveted Champions League trophy once. His contract expires in 2012 and despite talks of a renewal of the contract, he has not extended
the deal and there seems to be a possibility that the 27-year-old may leave in the near future.
Roberto Mancini could use some new faces; there have been a few incidents which indicated that there was some serious trouble in the City camp. There were feuds amongst the City players, as well as with Mancini himself. That has undoubtedly
affected the team’s performance on the pitch and they have lost precious points because of it.
With the arrival of Dzeko, Mancini will have more striking options, in the event of the unavailability of Tevez or Balotelli. Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has already made it clear that he wishes to leave the club in the upcoming
transfer window. If Mancini wishes to have a shot at the title, he will need a stronger squad and the arrival of Dzeko and Alves will provide just that.
