EPL News: Manchester City’s striker Balotelli ready to play against Liverpool
The latest Italian prodigy Mario Balotelli has admitted that the player is suffering from a knee injury but he has optimistically stated that he will recover just is time to play for the Eastlands for the match of the game week, Manchester City versus Liverpool.
There was troubling news for the Eastlands when they got news that their new Citizen, Balotelli might be injured and won’t be able to take part in the clash against Liverpool.
The knee injury could make the 20 year old Balotelli the third player that was acquired by Manchester City manger, Roberto Mancini this summer and has got himself injured.
The season has just started and the men from the star studded line up of Manchester City seem to be lining up for injuries one after another. Though Mancini is worried about the situation he has said that he will be able to manage under the worsening circumstances.
The Italian striker damaged the cartilage of his knee while he was playing in the Europa League qualification match against Timisoara. Manchester City did win the match in the end thanks to a lone goal.
Ironically the goal came from the notorious forward himself in the match that happened to be his debut for the club. First reports from the club’s doctors have concluded that the striker will be able to play for the club but the end decision does go to the player and the manager.
Mancini and Balotelli have an excellent relationship. They were both acquainted at their previous club the Champions League winner of last season Inter Milan. It was Mancini who brought Balotelli to Inter and now he has brought him City.
The realationship and bond of trust between the player and the manager is another reason the skillful player joined the club. While the departed coach from San Siro, Inter to Bernabeu Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho was unable to control the hot-headed smug Italian, Mancini had stated that the striker was misunderstood and Mourinho was disappointing in controlling him.
Balotelli later revealed that he snubbed a handsome offer from Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson to join Manchester City. About his debut from the club the striker expressed, “It was the kind of debut I dreamed of”.
He also spoke about his injury when he said, “But my right leg aches. I think it may be a cartilage thing and the problem is I do not have much muscle on this side”.
He continued by saying, “It wasn't the result of a tackle, nobody touched me, I simply over-extended the knee. It's a bit of a problem, but I'm sure it will go away fast and that I will be available against Liverpool”.
The striker came to the east lands with a price tag of 22 and a half million pounds and as the injury list on the team grows they will be hoping that the young prodigy will be their saviour again when they are in the bout up against the Reds.
The other two players that are benched in the match against the Merseyside are Jerome Boateng and Alexsandar Kolarov. They both are injured and are expected to make a comeback in the following weeks.
Kolarov could be out of action for at least the next 6 to 7 weeks as he has an ankle operation. On the other hand the other defender Boateng got his knee infected and therefore has been unable to play his first match for Eastlands.
Manchester City has been unable to show a presence of chemistry so far in their lustrous line up and therefore haven’t come forth with impressive results. Their pre season campaign saw them being defeated by mediocre teams while they played the best on their squad.
With the wealthy Sheikh Mansour backing them with his money they signed in many world class players last season. They have spent 80 million pounds alone on players this season. They also have the highest paid player in EPL Yaya Toure, signed in from Spanish giants Barcelona playing for them.
With all the talent in their squad their manager has claimed that they are in the run of winning the EPL title this season. They indeed delivered a shocker by finishing 5th last season, ahead of 6th Aston Villa and 7th Liverpool. They certainly have the tools to carve history all that remains is a good effort.
