EPL News: Manchester United urged to gear up against Stoke City
Manchester United assistant coach Mike Phelan has urged his side to gear up for their tie against Stoke City and said they should expect anything from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tony-c35440 Pulis’ men.
It can be agreed that Stoke City may not play the best football and lack big names, but they still give the Red Devil’s management headaches to choose the right tactics against one of the most physical sides in the Premier League.
United have a 100 per cent Premier League record over Stoke City in recent years. But the assistant manager claims every time they play Stoke, a tactical and planning issue arises.
"Stoke, for us, is as big a game as playing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, purely because they demand a high level of attention to detail. They are a very good team. They’ve sustained their Premier League status for a third successive season now and are
a competitive side,” stated the Phelan.
Phelan added that United as a club respect the way things are done at Stoke and are well aware of the talent the Potters possess. That makes them a huge threat to Manchester United’s title bid and Phelan would want his players to be focused throughout the
90 minutes.
Phelan identified that Stoke are strongest on set pieces, with their main threat being the long throw-ins of midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rory-Delap-c31779. Those set pieces and throws would be the major thing to look out on Tuesday evening.
"There’s more attention to detail in those situations. We analyse Stoke as we do with any other team and we pay them the respect they deserve. They challenge you in all areas of the field, and you have to be committed. If we do that, hopefully then we’ll
have the quality to win the game," stated Mike Phelan.
Manchester United had to fight for a win at the Britannia Stadium in October 2010. Despite taking the lead before half time, Stoke found its way back into the game in the second half.
Turkish midfielder Tuncay managed a remarkable run inside United’s six-yard box and then unleashed a beautiful curler to find the back of the net. It looked like another away draw for the Red Devils, but Hernandez doubled his tally to help United gain all
three points in the dying minutes of the match.
Left-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231 made a fantastic run from the left flank and then took a free shot. The shot was deflected off Stoke players and landed right into the feet of Javier Hernandez, who managed a simple tap in.
It was fortunate for Chicharito to find the ball at his feet at a crucial time or it would have been another draw. That is something United would have to improve on in order to keep a firm grip on the Premier League trophy. With title rivals Arsenal playing
Manchester City on Wednesday, a win at Stoke would further increase their lead on top of the table.
