EPL News: Mark Hughes appreciates Fulham’s new style, Roberto Martinez and Mancini mourn - Part 1
Mark Hughes declared his happiness as his team ended up as deserving winners against Wigan Athletic at the Craven Cottage. Fulham totally dominated their matchup against the Latics and eventually won the match by two goals to nil at the
Craven Cottage. It was a fantastic match for the Cottagers from start to finish who adopted an overtly offensive style against Wigan. The star of the show for Fulham was their American midfielder, Clint Dempsey. Dempsey netted twice in the first half of the
match to seal the victory for his team, a win that has taken Fulham to eighth place in the English Premier League.
Hughes spoke after his team’s win to the press saying, "We made it easy for ourselves because of the manner of our performance. From the start we were on the front foot, we had plenty if energy and dictated to the opposition, which is
what we want to do this season. We're asking the team to be more dynamic this year and not concede ground as readily as they did in the past. We saw the benefit of that today. The guys are enjoying the type of football we're playing and we were rewarded. We
felt that maybe we haven't been getting the points our performances deserve this season. We weren't worried about dropping down the table but you want to be in the top half when you wake up on a Sunday morning.”
Clint Dempsey in reality fed off the service that was given to him by Fulham’s two full backs, Carlos Salcido and Chris Baird. Both the wing backs did amazingly well during the match for the Cottagers. Their performances compelled Hughes
to appreciate them. The ex-Manchester City manager said, “I feel we are a top 10 side and I won't be persuaded from that. Both goals were after good passages of play. The first was an excellent goal that saw us change the focus of attack.”
Hughes showered praise on his American midfielder, Clint Dempsey as he said, "It was a great header from Clint and the second was similar from the other side. At 2-0 we were very comfortable." The ex-Manchester United striker also praised
Carlos Salcido’s performance as he said, "Salcido is a good player - everybody could see that today. His enjoyment of the Premier League is clear. He likes the intensity and wants to be involved. He's a very experienced international who has a good understanding
of the game. He's had a real impact for us. As an attacking threat he's come to the fore as well."
On the other hand, Roberto Martinez was clearly disappointed and somewhat angry at his side’s display at the Craven Cottage against Fulham F.C. Martinez spoke to the media after his team’s loss. The Spanish manager expressed, "That felt
like our worst performance of the season and we didn't deserve anything out of it. We came here with no real energy. We looked flat, couldn't get on the ball and were very weak.”
Roberto Martinez also spoke highly of Fulham’s performance. He commented, "Fulham were sharper and brighter. It was one of those performances that we must eradicate from our season. We must make sure it never happens again. We had an energetic
performance in the Carling Cup that took a lot from us and certain players probably couldn't cope with three games in a week. It's been a crazy period for us and today we didn't have the strength to compete."
