EPL News: Modric to Stay at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric brushed off recent rumours that he is moving away from White Hart Lane. There has been speculation in the media that the Croatian player may most likely move to Barcelona very soon.
The 25-year-old Croatian player has been a hit since arriving at White Hart Lane since signing for the London club in 2008. Spanish giants Barcelona have been looking for a talented playmaker after failing to sign Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas
over the summer.
However, the Tottenham star denied any such speculation, saying that he did not want wish to leave the Spurs. In fact, he dismissed the speculation as rumours and went on to say that he found such farfetched rumours as entertaining.
He told reporters, “Me going to Barcelona? Yes, I really hope that, but only as a Tottenham player in the next round of the Champions League. Let's be serious. All this is just so-called exclusive rumours, but I
don't know who really needs them. Are they funny? Yes, they are very funny for me.”
He did however; admit that it was flattering to be linked with one of Europe’s top clubs. He said that it would be anyone’s dream to play for the European giants, but said the speculation did not have any base and was just a made up story.
He said, "But of course, it is always nice to see your name being linked with such a club as Barcelona, but one has to keep their feet on the ground. At the end of the day it's just rumours without any foundation.
And I really don't want to talk about all this anymore.”
The player insisted that it was the media that had created the hype about a move away from White Hart Lane; he said he had previously also been linked with other top European clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter Milan.
He added, “Since I moved here newspapers are always talking about me leaving for somewhere else. First it was Chelsea, then Inter Milan and also Manchester United, now it is Barcelona. But the only truth is that
I just recently signed a new contract with Tottenham.”
Modric, who has just recently signed a new contract with Tottenham, said that Tottenham felt like home and he wished to stay there for the time being. He said he received great support from the fans and wanted to make his dreams come true
with the London club.
He ended by saying, “London is such a great place and at White Hart Lane I feel just like home. I know that the fans are happy with me; I have all the support I need to develop even more. I can make my football dreams
come true with Tottenham and that is why all my thoughts and also my future is with this club.”
