EPL News: Moyes urges Capello to call up Leighton Baines as Onuoha loves life at Sunderland
Everton’s manager, David Moyes has come out and said that Capello should consider calling up Leighton Baines for his team’s left back position as the player merits his chance in the English national team shirt. Baines released a statement
in the summer in which he said that he would’ve been plagued by homesickness if he travelled with England to the world cup and ever since then, Capello has not picked the Everton man who has been in a good run of form this season thus far.
Moyes stated in his interview, "I think Baines’s form merits a recall because he's as good as any left-back in the country. Whatever the management's reasons for not picking him, it can't be because of his form. He's creative, joining
in and looking more mature in his play. But when he said he'd get homesick, he said the wrong thing. He knows he probably let himself down. He should have been more positive."
Moyes admitted that Everton thought, that Baines would be selected for England’s squad for their friendly against the French national team. However, Fabio went with Kieran Gibbs from the Arsenal reserves as well as Stephen Warnock from
Aston Villa’s first team. Everton’s manager said, "We thought this was the squad he could be fed back into, to see if there was any change."
David Moyes also took an issue with Capello’s selection of Phillip Jagielka as a right back during England’s 2-1 defeat to France at Wembley in mid-week. He said, "Centre-half is Jags' best position and he looked more comfortable when
he went there. Would I play him at right-back? No."
Everton lost their last league match to Arsenal at Goodison Park by two goals to nil. Moyes definitely will be looking for a comeback from his team as they travel to the Stadium of light to face Sunderland in their next league matchup.
The Scotsman stated, "I've got to make sure that people are fighting for their places and they know what we expect. I don't think people would have seen it as a shock if we'd beaten Arsenal, but now we're back in the bottom half with a difficult away game
coming up. We've got to get it right."
In other news, the scorer of a wonder goal that Lionel Messi would’ve been proud of against Chelsea, Nedum Onuoha has come out and expressed his thoughts on life at Sunderland F.C. Onuoha was sent on loan to Sunderland by Manchester City
in the summer and since then he has done quite well at the Tyneside club.
Onuoha said, "It was difficult leaving City. In pre-season I didn't think I was going to be in Roberto Mancini's 25-man squad, so it was a case of staying and playing in the reserves or hopefully someone wanting you to be in their squad
or side for the season. I did leave City with a heavy heart, because I never expected myself to leave to be honest. I'd been there so long, since I was 10, and I had the feeling I could be in the side. But I wasn't - so you have the moment when you say, 'You
have to do this, you have to move on'. It was a sad time.”
He added on his move to Sunderland, "Thankfully Sunderland came in and once they did it was a bit of a no-brainer. This is a new home for me, so I can't complain at all. It has worked out very well. Steve Bruce put some faith in me and
said that he wanted me to be a big part of his season. You can't say no to that, can you?"
The defender was also hinted at a move away from Eastlands eventually, as he said, "If City were to sell me, this is definitely a place I would consider coming back to because I'm really enjoying it. A lot of the players here are of a
similar age with similar ambitions, so it's a great place to be."
