EPL News Review - Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United
Liverpool:
Liverpool’s boss has admitted that his side did not play their usual high standard game against Wigan Athletic which ended in a 1-1 draw. Liverpool scored the first goal thanks to their talismanic striker Fernando Torres, who struck with just seven minutes
into the match. It was Torres’ third goal of the season and first away one since March.
However, Athletic equalised right after the first half. The home team looked the better side in the second half although; Joe Cole had a shot crash back off the crossbar late on.
Hodgson said that his team looked tired and their passing was not up to the mark. He added that they had a bright start but failed to finish off on a positive note. He praised Liverpool’s only goal of the match, saying that it was a remarkable team goal
by two of his outstanding players.
Roy Hodgson stated, “We had a spell where we were pretty much in control but from the start of the second half we invited Wigan on to us all the time by consistently giving the ball away. As a result, they took advantage and scored an equalising goal. We
did a little better towards the end and we were unlucky with Steven's shot which hit the underside of the crossbar. But it would have been harsh on Wigan had we won it and they can probably feel the 1-1 result flatters us more than them."
Manchester City:
Manchester City’s defensive leader Kompany believes that his team would still improve and hopes that Citizens will finish for a Champions League spot at the end of the season.
After their 0-0 draw with Manchester United, Kompany said that he was content that the match ended as a nil-nil draw and was hopeful that his team would win against Birmingham to cement their position in Barclays Premier League.
Kompany added, “We have picked ourselves up and are looking forward. There is a four-point gap between us and our competitors for the Champions League spot. It is interesting and things are going in a good way for us. We have played maybe the five best teams
in the country in Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, United and Chelsea and kept four clean sheets against them. Those teams usually score for fun but we have done well to contain them. It is a positive thing. Goals will come in our next games. It is a very long
season. Winter is coming. The dangerous month of December is coming, so there will be a lot changes in months ahead."
Manchester City are currently in their best position on Barclays Premier League table, sitting at fourth position with 22 points to their name in 13 matches.
Manchester United:
Edwin van der Sar looks disappointed with the 0-0 draw against Manchester City at Eastlands. He said that he did not think it was good for Manchester United. The veteran goalie added that the game against Manchester City was quite-one sided. Manchester United
dominated the possession and passed the ball extremely well but failed to create a lot of chances to finish off the moves.
Van der Sar stated that Manchester United’s city rivals were aiming for a draw and Manchester City approached the game more defensively.
Manchester United are currently at third place in Barclays Premier League table, just one behind Arsenal and three behind Chelsea.
