EPL News Review - Newcastle United, Stoke City, Sunderland
Newcastle United:
Newcastle United’s talismanic midfielder, Joey Barton, who is also known as David Bekham of low lying teams, has accepted FA's charges of poor disciplinary conduct. He is given three match ban for punching Pedersen. Barton also apologized to Pedersen.
Barton said that he accepted his wrong doing as well as the charges brought against him, adding that he would want to apologise to his team members, managers and supporters for his act against Pederson. Newcastle United is currently at seventh position in
Barclays Premier League with 18 points out of 13 matches.
Stoke City:
The Potters' manager believes that Whitehead’s winner against Wigan Athletic was long overdue. It was the first time he scored for the Potters in Premier League since joining them two years ago.
Stoke City’s manager said that Whitehead would have scored a lot more this season but he missed some crucial chances. He hopes that the former Sunderland striker would find his best form soon and thus prove vital for Stoke City this season.
Sunderland:
Sunderland's former striker, Nail Quinn believes that the Black Cats are currently in the best possible situation. The Sunderland chairman has overseen a transformation in the playing staff since taking charge in 2006, backed first by the Drumaville Consortium
and then Ellis Short. Following last season's 13th-place finish, manager Steve Bruce spent heavily over the summer, bringing in seven players including the record signing of Asamoah Gyan.
Quinn also praised his manager Bruce for providing the right balance at Sunderland, which is now in its fourth consecutive season in Premier League.
Nail Quinn said, "We have value for money from the squad, more than at any other time. That's both in terms of their financial values, and their ages. It represents a really good story for the club considering where we've come from over the last four years.
At times, we are the youngest squad in the Barclays Premier League from one to 11. That's encouraging and augurs well for the future. But we have some nice balance too, such as having a statesman like Bolo Zenden at the club. He can help our young players
along. Plus we have players coming back into the team who will bring experience, such as Craig Gordon."
