EPL News: Robert Pires officially a Villain, for the next six months at least
Aston Villa's manager Gerard Houllier has offered former Arsenal and French midfielder Robert Pires a short term, six month deal after convincing the player to join him at Villa Park.
Pires who is currently 37-years-old, had been a free agent after parting ways with Villarreal this past summer. The player has however managed to maintain his fitness by training with the Arsenal first team for the last two months.
Pires has already agreed to personal terms with the team and is now subject to get assigned his jersey at Villa, once he passes a medical which would determine if he is fit enough to feature in the weekend fixtures, starting tomorrow.
After completing the agreement to join Aston Villa, Pires was caught saying the following in an interview: "I start tomorrow with the team. It is a good opportunity for me"
"I am very happy because I like English football. It is very important for me to play again. I think I can play on Sunday.
"Like me, (Houllier) is very happy. I am going to play with experience, because the team is very young."
Pires has in the past managed to win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with Arsenal, apart from that he also has a World Cup and a Euro Cup to his name with the French national team.
Pires managed to join Villarreal, after opting to leave the Arsenal side. He spent a couple of years with the Yellow Submarine, before being told that his contract would not be renewed this past summer. However Aston Villa have found that
to be a blessing in disguise as they now have a world class player, with all the experience in the world to help guide the team to success in the future.
Most Villa fans and players will be hoping that Pires manages to make the side for the fixture against Blackburn. If that does happen than Pires would make his return to the Premier League after four long years and it would be a comeback
worth watching.
