EPL News: Robinho wants to stay with Santos while Bellamy’s possible switch to Tottenham
Robinho is anxious to lengthen his stay at Santos by a year at least as it seems that the Brazilian striker has attached himself to the club who recently won the Brazilian Cup last season.
Coming out victorious in the tournament has made the club earn a spot in the Copa Libertadores which is the equivalent of the Champions League in South America.
Robinho has been pleading Manchester City to extend his loan with Santos, so he can have a chance to bring home the biggest prize on the continent. City in response has refused. It is understandable as no club would like to drop a player like Robinho from their club.
Robinho commented on the matter by saying that he would rather stay in Brazil than return to the English Premier League, where he thinks that he has fallen out of Coach Roberto Mancini’s goodwill. Plus, Santos has been very good to him and has made him quite happy. His performance over there has been outstanding as well.
Robinho said that he wanted a chance to bag the Copa Libertadores but this decision does not only depend on him and he needs to ask his team as well. Robinho has a contract with Manchester City and if they don’t allow him to stay in Brazil, the player will not be able to fulfill his dream.
Luis Alvaro De Oliveira Ribeiro, President of Santos has put together another loan proposal and is expected to talk to Manchester City very soon. Luis believes that a new agreement can be made with Manchester City and he will fight for this deal like his players fight for him on the field.
During Robinho’s six months with the club, Santos has won the Paulista Championship as well. In this entire picture, the only good thing for Robinho is that Manchester City is trying to discard a few players. At the moment, Shaun Wright Phillips, Wayne Bridge and Craig Bellamy are almost at the edge of the plate.
In other news, Celtics manager Neil Lennon has shown interest in Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy. This forward seems to be a liability in Manchester City’s long list of players. Consequently, there are rumours that Roberto Mancini will allow this transfer to go through.
Bellamy is a Welsh 31-one-year old striker and is a part of the Welsh national team. He made his debut for Norwich City in 1997 and is also serving as the captain of the Welsh National team. Bellamy has won the Scottish Cup and the FA Community Shield.
If the deal would be made on loan or a permanent transfer is unknown because of the new twenty five man squad rule. Tottenham has also been predicted to ask for the player if Celtic does not.
When questioned about the player, Lennon opined that he did not want to comment on the matter at the moment until things are clear and confirmed to him as he has a lot of options right now. Bellamy has spent six months on loan with the Celtics and has scored 7 goals in twelve appearances.
The Celtics are also looking for new recruits for their defense as well but as Lennon has commented on the matter that the truth is that their squad is still a bit inexperienced.
He continued by saying that he went for Jimmy Bullard, David James and Sol Campbell and if they put in enough effort, then they can have a clean record and not let any balls pass through.
Lennon wants new people in the squad and is working hard to get them and in the case that he does not manage to find enough people, then he would not be afraid of going into the season with just the people he has right now.
