EPL News: Roque Santa Cruz Could Return To Blackburn
Roque Santa Cruz, the out of favour Manchester City striker, could possibly be returning to his former side Blackburn Rovers. He left Rovers to join Manchester City in 2009 but failed to establish himself in the first team at Eastlands.
The Paraguayan striker moved to City from Ewood Park for £17.5 million but had a very difficult first season. He scored three goals in nineteen appearances for Roberto Mancini’s side last season, and was always second to the likes of Carlos
Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor.
The injuries he sustained did not help his situation, a calf injury kept him sidelined for the better part of last season. He considered a move to Lazio during the summer, but the club refused to pay the demanded amount and Cruz stayed
at Eastlands.
Emmanuel Adebayor, Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli have always been preferred by Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini over Santa Cruz. However, Santa Cruz is desperate for first team football and is willing to move away from Eastlands.
Sources close to the player revealed that the player would be willing to move back to Blackburn Rovers. The player was well settled at Ewood Park and apparently has his family already settled in the area, a return to Blackburn would settle
well with both the player and the club.
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has reportedly been looking for an experienced striker and Santa Cruz fits the bill. The Manchester City striker will be available for £4 million and Sam Allardyce has been promised that the money will be
made available to him in January.
The new Blackburn owners, the poultry firm Vendy’s, said that they would make money available for Allardyce to spend this January. Chairman Anuradha Desai told reporters, “New players will be arriving. Money will
be available. We are not a selling club now.”
