EPL News: Roy Hodgson leaves Liverpool
Former Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has left Liverpool by mutual consent and youth manager Kenny Dalglish has been appointed as the caretaker coach.
The manager left the Merseyside following his dismal record with the club, where he managed just 13 wins from 31 fixtures in all competitions.
According to the press release, club owner John Henry thanked the manager for his services and confirmed that Hodgson has the left with mutual consent.
"We are grateful for Roy's efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stands down from his position as team manager. We wish him all the best for the future," stated the primary owner of the club
John Henry.
This was answered by the former manager Roy Hodgson, where he thanked the owners for the chance of managing such a legendary club. The manager accepted that this was by far the most challenging job of his long career and expressed his grief for not being
able to bring in new players and help rebuild Liverpool Football Club as a whole. The manager also thanked the fans for their support and praised them for being so loyal to the club.
Hodgson said, "Being asked to manage Liverpool Football Club was a great privilege. Any manager would be honoured to manage a club with such an incredible history, such embedded tradition and such an amazing set of fans.
Liverpool is one of the great clubs in world football. I have, however, found the last few months some of the most challenging of my career. I am very sad not to have been able to put my stamp on the squad, to be given the time to bring new players into
the club in this transfer window and to have been able to be part of the rebuilding process at Liverpool.
The club has some great, world-class players, with whom it has been a pleasure to work and I wish the entire squad well for the rest of the season. I thank those with whom I have built up a close working relationship at the club for their loyalty and support
during very testing times, and finally of course to the Liverpool fans, your passion and dedication to the club will see Liverpool at the top of the game once more."
Former club manager and current youth manager Kenny Dalglish has been appointed as the temporary in-charge of the club. Dalglish managed to win three English leagues and 2 FA Cups during his managerial reign at the club and his first match in-charge would
be the all-action fixture against rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The owner explained the decision to bring in Kenny Dalglish, stating that he seemed the perfect man for the job at such a time of crisis. The owner wished Liverpool’s third-most successful manager best of luck for the future.
Henry added, “Kenny was not just a legendary footballer, he was the third of our three most successful managers - three giants. We are extraordinarily fortunate and grateful that he has decided to step in during the middle of this season.”
Hodgson has been under fire since his arrival at the club and managed just one away win in 10 fixtures. Rafael Benitez, the former Liverpool coach, who was sacked at the start of the season, actually managed better results than Hodgson.
In 2009-10 season, Liverpool managed 6 wins out of 10 at Anfield, while winning four of ten on the road. Overall, in the first 20 fixtures in the Premier league last season, Liverpool had won 10, drawn 3 and lost 7, scoring 37 times, finishing at 7th
position.
Comparing this to Hodgson’s, the side has won 7 times, drawn 4 and lost nine. The side has scored 24 times and is currently 12th in the premier league. This shows the difference between the two periods as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 has worsened off under Hodgson
than under Rafael Benitez.
