EPL News: Sam laments poor Blackburn form as Gareth Bale earns praise
Joe Jordan, a member of Tottenham’s coaching staff who had worked hard on Gareth Bale’s fitness levels in the past season came out and praised the winger after he contributed to Tottenham’s latest win over Blackburn with a goal and an
assist as well. Bale was on hand for Tottenham as they ended their winless streak in the Premier League by besting Sam Allardyce’s Blackburn Rovers at the White Hart Lane.
Jordan spoke on Tottenham’s behalf after their win over Blackburn, as the assistant coach said, "Some of the football we played in the first half, the openings and opportunities we created, were terrific, especially against a team who
did well against Newcastle in midweek. I thought we played exceptionally well and should have been further ahead in the first half. Harry is a very positive guy. He wants to play on the front foot. We picked the team to win the game.”
Speaking a bit on the score line which rested at 4-2 at the final whistle, Jordan said, “We are disappointed we conceded two goals. But if you do drop your concentration level that is what will happen. At 4-0 up I thought we failed to
pick-up the second balls. I don't think it should take anything away from the result and the football we played. The way we played the game was fantastic. We played some great football."
Joe went onto praise Gareth Bale and Peter Crouch as well; the English striker got his first goal of the Premier League season against Blackburn. Joe said to the press, "At the moment Bale is a provider and he is also scoring goals. He
is so positive going forward but he also does a shift when we have not got the ball. He has got the energy to do that. I think Crouch deserved it. He has scored his goals abroad this season. But to get it in the manner he did, typifies his game. He followed
it up and pounced. It was a terrific goal."
Sam Allardyce on the other hand was not quite appreciative of his team’s performance against Tottenham as he said, "The game from my point of view as a defensive unit was diabolical and as an attacking unit very exciting. But it is no
good gifting the opposition four goals before you start putting the ball in the back of the net. We are very disappointed about the way we defended today. We gave ourselves too big a mountain to climb by not doing the basic defending right, which is unlike
us, unusual, but unfortunate, and we will just have to take it on the chin. We had our times in the game. We had a penalty given against us which wasn't a penalty. Paul Robinson had both hands on the ball but they missed it.”
Elaborating a bit further on the chances that fell his team’s way during the encounter with Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham Hotspurs in London, Sam stated, "We had two chances which we didn't take and then Gareth Bale goes up the other end
and puts a cross in and Pavlyuchenko knocks it in for 2-0. That is the telling time in football you have to punish the opposition when you are in control of the game.”
Sam Allardyce concluded by remarking, “We made a lot of chances in the second half. But their third goal summed our defending up today. It was a good save from Paul Robinson and the ball falls to Givet. All he has to do is clear but he
gives it to Crouch to score. That summed us up today in that one moment. We should really have scored more than two. It was nice to see us open them up in the way we did. But Bale punished us severely today."
