EPL News: Scott Parker urges team mates to change the mentality as West Ham look to face Blackpool
Scott Parker has become the latest West Ham player to issue a warning call to his team mates. West Ham have looked woeful thus far in the English Premier League as the London outfit has seemed destined for relegation due to their bad performances
in the 2010-2011 season till now. West Ham United currently reside at the bottom of the English Premier League table as they have only managed to gain eight points from a total of twelve league games thus far.
The Hammers have been throwing away leads after going ahead in their League matches so far. Previously, against West Bromwich and Birmingham, West Ham threw away first half leads to eventually draw the match with their fellow league strugglers.
The former Chelsea player is disappointed with the team’s performances thus far and he has urged his team mates to realize the seriousness of the situation they are in.
Scott told the media, "The whole team needs to be more defensive-minded. When we get into a winning position we need to see the game out and we are struggling to do that. It's one thing to concede from a 40-yard screamer or when a player
beats four defenders and curls one in to the top corner. But when an opponent gets a free header three yards from goal - like West Brom's equalizer on Wednesday night - that is just not acceptable. We can't keep on allowing sloppy goals like these if we are
going to turn draws into wins."
David Sullivan came out last week and asked the players to at least gain seven points from their next four league matches. West Ham have left them a steep task now as they need to win against Liverpool and Blackpool in their next two matches
to achieve the target that was handed out to them by their club’s co-owner.
Parker who scored with a beautiful shot against West Brom added to his comments by saying, “We are trying our hardest to meet the targets the chairman wants. But it is easier said than done. We should have won our last two games and it's
our own fault that we didn't. Now we have a massive game coming up against Blackpool at the weekend and every home game from now on is going to be hugely important.”
The ex-Charlton skipper concluded by stating, "It is important to keep believing we can turn the corner and get out of this position. We have had some good performances lately and I think we are very close to turning things around. But
we have to start winning at Upton Park and move up the table as quickly as possible."
