EPL News: The biggest grudge match in English football- Liverpool vs. Manchester United (Part 2)
At eighth position is Manchester City, who have acquired 5 points with a goal difference of +2. Below them at the eleventh position is Tottenham Hotspurs who have scored 5 points with and made a goal difference of 0. Liverpool is at the thirteenth position
with 5 points and a goal difference of -2.
At the nineteenth position is Everton with just two points and goal difference of -2 and West Ham United who have failed to score 0 points and have a goal difference -10.
All this presents a picture that shows the point Rio had been emphasizing earlier in the season when he said that the race for the title this season has never been more open than this season.
This season mediocre teams have certainly developed themselves in a better way and have presented and capitalized much better on the chances they have had to progress. That is one of the main reasons of their success. Another is the teams developing a better
chemistry than before.
The skipper of Red Devil’s Rio Ferdinand has admitted that Manchester United have dropped in rating so far this season this season rather clumsily. They are heading in to the encounter with being four points short from the league leaders Chelsea. They will
have a good chance to gain points and resume their dominance from the clash at Old Trafford.
He stated that at both the Craven Cottage and Goodison Park, United’s performance was under par. At the encounter against Fulham Red Devil’s winger Nani missed a penalty that could have given United a much needed lead and put them 2 goals a head with just
about 5 minutes remaining on the clock.
Playing against Everton too, United lost the game in the injury time as Everton took control and scored two goals in the 90th minute and the 93rd minutes. They were heading for another one with Steven Pienaar leading the charge but
the referee controversially blew his whistle ending the match.
This would have been a major upset from the People’s club as they have would have gained a much needed morale boost.
Liverpool is the nemesis of Manchester United and this is reason enough for Ferdinand to enter the match will all his guns bare. He has stated that he indeed would be exuberant along with all the Red Devil worshippers.
The 31 year old defender stated, “This kind of game is always good for galvanising spirit and belief. You would be beating one of your closest rivals, so to win this game would be great for team morale. Hopefully it will put us on the crest of a wave.”
Nonetheless, United has been providing with outstanding plays throughout the season. They have shown superb performance and impressed with professional play. The department where they have lacked is vigilance as just a few mistakes have been taking them
down.
Their Champions League match against Rangers ended in a draw in which United though was able to produce outstanding game plays but were unlucky in breaking down the Scottish defence.
The match unexpectedly ended in a draw mainly due to the fact that they were playing 9 men on defence and whenever they tried to produce a counter attack they were unable to score because the lone forward had simply too much on his shoulders.
Manchester United has faced a couple of recent blows in the form of injuries and Antonio Valencia tops that list. Valencia got tackled in the match against Rangers and broke his ankle and doing so in now out for the season facing a recovery of at least six
months. It is expected that Valencia will make a return to football in February.
