EPL News: The biggest grudge match in English football- Liverpool vs. Manchester United (Part 3)
He had been in good form since last season where he assisted most of Wayne Rooney’s goals. Valencia and Rooney had developed great understanding on the wings which helped United a lot during the last season.
The other man on the bench is Michael Carrick, who will return in 3 weeks. He injured his Achilles tendon during a match and was therefore ruled out eventually.
In addition, Owen Hargreaves who is suffering from tendonitis and has failed to play consistently for United since the last two years was expected a return in this summer. He has injured himself again forcing Ferguson to state that he will not play anymore
until is fully fit again. It is expected that he might make his appearance at the start of the second leg of this season.
Ferdinand and Ferguson have confirmed that this season United will heavily rely on the services provided by Dimitar Berbatov and Paul Scholes. So far, Berbatov and Scholes both have been the keystone of United success in the midfield and in the attack. The
aging Ryan Giggs has also been a central pivot for them and it is expected that these senior players will have to become the beacon for Old Trafford to possess another title.
Ferdinand is also disappointed with Rooney’s performance. Rooney no doubt has been troubled by his private life but it is expected that the after he opened his scoring tally via penalty he will be scoring more goals for the club now.
It can be confidently stated that if Rooney is able to outclass defenders with his lightening pace and finesse finishing. He scored 34 goals lasts season and can be the decisive factor for the club.
Ferdinand has been injured himself since the summers before the FIFA 2010 World Cup. The England skipper was injured in an English practise session when team mate Emile Heskey tackled him and he was ruled out.
Henceforth he didn’t participate in any matches and is just about to make his comeback. He will be partnering up with central defender Nemanja Vidic and prove to be the vital wall against Spanish super star Fernando Torres.
Ferdinand started his youth career from Millwall and eventually progressed to play for West Ham United. West Ham was also the place from where he initiated his professional career in 1995. He played for them till 2000, though he was lent on loan to Bournemouth
for a short period of time during 1996. He has made a total of 157 appearances with his tenure for West Ham United.
From 2000 to 2002, he played for Leeds United and became a major difference maker for them. In the end, he capped 73 times, making a transfer to Manchester United in 2002. Till date, he has appeared in 332 fixtures for them and while capping a total number
of 573 matches.
Ferdinand has also starred for England since 1997. He has acquired appearances in 78 matches for the Three Lions and has often proved himself to be the last line of defence for them.
With players like Ferdinand at their disposal along with nearly full team and most of their players in good form, United is expected to give Liverpool a very tough time at their home ground. They will be helped by the Merseyside’s recent lack of performance
too.
Ferdinand stated in a press release, “There is a frustration with results but not with performance. We have been in commanding positions, so not to come away with six points from those two games is disappointing. But overall, we are pleased with the
way we are playing. We have been scoring goals freely, including five in two games away from home. The main point is that we have to finish them off.”
