EPL News: Tony Pulis builds on Pennant for the Liverpool clash
Stoke’s manager Tony Pulis has come out and started a war of words before his team’s clash against Liverpool F.C in the English Premier League. Pulis has talked about his club’s summer signing and the ex-Liverpool winger, Jermaine Pennant
to be fired up for Stoke’s weekends match against Liverpool.
Pennant played for Liverpool in the 2007 UEFA Champions League final but never really impressed at the Merseyside outfit and therefore he parted ways with the club. Stoke signed the Englishman from Real Zaragoza and thus far Pennant has
done very well with the English league side. Even though Pennant has yet to complete a total of 90 minutes for Stoke City in a match, he has become an integral part of Tony Pulis’s plans. Stoke City defeated Birmingham City in their last league match and a
result against Liverpool on the weekend will propel Stoke to new heights in the Premier League table.
However, such a feat is easier said than done. Tony spoke to the media as he said, "Jermaine has done smashing. His fitness levels have been a little bit low but he has been playing abroad and maybe not working as hard as some of our players
work. But I thought on Tuesday he was absolutely brilliant. We're hoping he continues and I am sure he will be looking forward to this game immensely. We're hoping he puts in a similar performance - if selected."
Pulis remarked a bit more on Jermaine’s career and his team’s win against Birmingham as he said, “I think he is desperate to get back into English football, and he has done brilliantly. It was an important game to win in many respects.
In Premier League football you do go on these runs - if you look at the sequence of games, with the only home game being against Manchester United, it was always going to be a difficult time for us. When you go away from home you need the breaks, one or two
things going your way, and we just didn't get it. But you keep level, keep going. We're very pleased that we won and the manner we won is pleasing."
Alternatively, Liverpool drew their last league match something that Stoke will take confidence from. Speaking about his team’s chances against Liverpool, Tony Pulis stated, “We have got a couple of little knocks and a couple of little
niggles - but we are playing Liverpool. Every one of my players will be spitting blood to be on that team sheet because it is one of the great games this club will play this year. Liverpool are a fantastic football club with great tradition. It was brilliant,
the atmosphere, on Tuesday and you don't have to worry about it on Saturday. It is completely sold out and when we play the top five or six clubs in this league the supporters on the terraces are pretty amazing. For people who have not been to a game at the
Britannia, it is worth coming just to listen to the noise of the crowd supporting their team."
Tony Pulis also sympathized with Roy Hodgson as he said, “You hope Roy does well, he has been a terrific football man. His career has taken him through international management; he has worked at the lower levels and at great clubs like
Inter Milan. Now he is at a great club like Liverpool. He is a decent man as well and apart from Saturday and when we play them at Anfield, I hope he does well."
