EPL News: Torres suffers ankle ligament injury as Henderson on books for Chelsea and Manchester United
Liverpool’s star striker, Fernando Torres who fired them to a two goal victory on the past weekend against Chelsea has now suffered an ankle ligament injury. The Spanish striker sustained the injury in Liverpool’s latest two goal loss
to Stoke City at the Britannia stadium. It was a tough match for the Red who failed to build on their win against Chelsea as they drew in mid-week against Wigan and then lost to Stoke on Saturday.
However, Liverpool believe that the injury is not a serious one as it is much more of a strain than a ligament break for El Nino. Torres is in the Spanish squad already as the FIFA 2010 World Cup winners are set to face Portugal in a friendly
match next week. Liverpool released a statement addressing the striker’s fitness situation, the club said, "Fernando Torres sustained an ankle ligament strain during Saturday's clash with Stoke City - but the striker will still join up with the Spain squad
for their international with Portugal. The Reds' medical team have been in contact with their Spanish counterparts to keep them up to date on the 26-year-old's condition. Torres will have the injury further assessed by the Spanish medical staff ahead of the
friendly in Lisbon on Wednesday."
On the other hand, Manchester United, Manchester City and even Chelsea are considered to be interested in Henderson’s services. The midfielder who currently plays for Sunderland is being touted up as a transfer target for Sir Alex Ferguson’s
Red Devils especially as they need reinforcements for their midfield section of the squad. Steve Bruce spoke to the media about the midfielder and Sir Alex Ferguson’s interest in him.
He said, "Only once has Fergie talked about one of my players, and that was [Antonio] Valencia, and bugger me he bought him. He had spoken to me about him. 'Keep me informed' were his words, then he signed him. He has said the same about
Jordan, but to be fair they have all asked to be kept informed. What has caught most of their eyes is his ability to get up and down the pitch now is huge. You looked at Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole and Cesc Fabregas, they are all great players but they can
get up and down the pitch to get the mileage, and you need that in the modern game.
Praising Henderson a bit further, he added, "He has caught the eye because he is a very good player. If you are Chelsea, Manchester United, or Liverpool, there is a 20-year-old who is playing in the Premier League week in, week out. There
are not many you can look at. He is a Sunderland player, and a Sunderland lad and we will do our utmost to keep him but we can never stop speculation. He has huge respect for this football club and he will do the right thing. Jordan has a good grounding."
