EPL News: Tottenham’s local Dutchmen VdV suffers setback on glittering career
Tottenham Hotspurs’ worst fears have been confirmed that their team’s local hero, Rafael Van der Vaart has gone ahead and re-injured his already troublesome hamstring. The player picked up the injury in the game against Tottenham.
Ever since the midfielder was forced off the pitch, an immediate difference could be felt on the pitch. Tottenham lost their hold in the centre of the field and as a result Liverpool were given too much space and time on the ball, which
eventually lead to the away team scoring the first goal on the night.
However Tottenham eventually managed to turn around the one goal deficit and went on to win by a score line of two goals to one.
Nonetheless despite winning the game Harry Redknapp was rather concerned in the post match interview about the fitness of his players. He also went on to mention how he personally felt that the players’ contributions in the FIFA World
Cup 2010, played a vital role in him constantly picking up these knocks.
Van Der Vaart, now joins the likes of Younes Kaboul on the injury bench for the North London team. Kaboul didn’t even participate in the game against Liverpool due to a hip injury that he picked up.
Redknapp is reported to have said the following about the situation: "Rafa felt it tear, so that doesn't look too good"
"Younes felt he might have torn a muscle in his hip. He felt that go.
"It's so disappointing for Rafa. He keeps picking up little injuries.
"It's probably because he's missed a pre-season or was away at the World Cup and not played many games.
"When your fitness is a bit low it's hard to get up to speed. He keeps getting little nicks."
It is still unclear as to how long the players will be out for. However after looking at the immediate conditions that the midfielder was in after being forced out of action, it is safe to say that he will be sidelined for at least the
coming three to four weeks. However it will be interesting to watch is how the team will cope up in the player’s absence.
Last time the Dutch man was out injured, Tottenham witnessed a giant slump in their form and with the winter break coming up the team would have not wanted this to have happened. However as it is the player will be out for the month and
several players at the club will have to step it up in the players absence.
The players who will be desperately needed to up their game will be Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe.
Modric will have to go ahead and take over the reins in the midfield since at the moment there are no other players present for that role in the Tottenham line up, especially one who can control the game quite the same way that Van Der
Vaart can. However Modric comes the closest to doing the same and he will be required to step his game up. Along with that Gareth Bale will be needed to increase his ability to fly down the wings and deliver those lethal assists in. With Van Der Vaart gone
out the team will be looking to Bale to provide the assists.
Lastly the duo of Defoe and Crouch will have to work out some sort of chemistry amongst each other to try and score goals, this is because there won’t be anyone around to provide them with the perfect assists.
As it stands the future looks bleak for Tottenham but that is of course unless the team can uncharacteristically step their game up and rise to the challenge.
