EPL News: United star Wayne Rooney on course to return soon, Chelsea Lampard suffers latest setback
Manchester United have revealed in their latest press conference that they are awaiting the return of their star striker from America; after Wayne Rooney completed his rehabilitation process in the United States from his ankle injury.
Manchester United drew their last Premier League game against Manchester City at the Eastlands stadium. Nonetheless, the Red Devils are now unbeaten in their last 25 matches in all competitions, a statistic that is sure to please the veteran Sir Alex Ferguson.
Wayne Rooney last featured for Manchester United against West Bromwich Albion but since then the striker has been out due to an ankle injury, a fitness issue that has plagued him since March of 2010. Rooney’s absence gained controversial
status three weeks ago when the striker came out and questioned the club’s ambition to sign new players. However, since then the things have calmed down a bit as Rooney proceeded to sign a new five year contract with the English giants.
Mike Phelan revealed that Rooney is scheduled to return sooner rather than later as he has completed his recovery process with Nike’s HQ in Beaverton. Wayne Rooney was sent to Nike’s HQ a week ago to go through “intensive conditioning”.
The English striker will return to England on Saturday and then his fitness levels will be judged by Manchester United’s medical team on Monday, 15th of November, 2010. One thing is confirmed that Rooney will not feature for Manchester
United against Aston Villa. The striker might also miss England’s friendly match with France.
Mike Phelan, United’s assistant manager spoke to the press and he said, "Wayne has been doing really well. He has been training really hard, working morning and afternoon. Our people out there who are looking after him have been really
pleased with his attitude and approach. All being well he can have a nice easy flight back. We will see where he is at on Monday but we think he will have improved immensely."
In other news, Chelsea’s midfielder Frank Lampard is also scheduled to face another three weeks on the sidelines as the midfielder suffered an abductor injury in training for the Blues. Chelsea have been without Frank Lampard’s services
for the past two months as the talismanic footballer was recovering from a hernia operation. This latest setback for Chelsea comes at a bad time as the Blues will be without Michael Essien as well for their weekends match against Sunderland at the Stamford
Bridge.
