EPL News: Wayne Rooney found training with the squad on Monday
Manchester United’s star striker Wayne Rooney was found training with his team mates, in what would be his return to the squad. Wayne Rooney was unexpectedly omitted from Saturday’s frustrated draw at Everton, but now he has returned for training for the Rangers game in the UEFA Champions League.
The reasons behind Rooney’s omission were countless, but manager Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that he didn’t want the striker to become a part of any personal abuse. Rooney’s personal life has come under heavy fire since the interview by a local hooker, claiming that the 24 year old allegedly had relations with her while Rooney’s wife, Coleen, was pregnant with their son, Kai. Since Rooney’s departure to Manchester United in 2004, the player has always received jeers each time he visited Goodison Park.
Also, it may be concluded that the striker may have been punished by the manager over his private life concerns, but Ferguson has not made such a move in his 26 years (and counting) with Manchester United.
However, at the training camp, the striker showed no signs of stress as he was seen joking around with his team mates in what would be United’s final training session before the Champions league match. It would be an interesting encounter between the Red Devils and the Scottish Champions, as manager Sir Alex Ferguson, in his senior career, spent two successful years at Glasgow Rangers. Ferguson also hails from Glasgow and current manager of the Scottish side has been a close friend and assistant manager at Manchester United.
Omission of Rooney from this match would cause alarm for many fans and critics as United aim to lift the Champions league trophy for the 4th time. United would be looking to bounce back from their shock draw at Everton, where the Red Devils conceded two goals in a matter of a minute and a half.
The manager would be extremely delighted with having a fully fit squad, with the exception of Michael Carrick. The English midfielder is out for three weeks owing to his Achilles injury but the remaining squad is fully fit and available for selection. This includes English Captain Rio Ferdinand, who has not featured in a single match for his club this season. Ferdinand couldn’t feature in the World Cup owing to his knee ligament injury suffered at the training camp in the World Cup, but now has made a good recovery.
Having a full squad at his disposal would be good news for Sir Alex Ferguson, as he has already made known his intentions. Should he be given a choice to concentrate on either the UEFA Champions League or the Premier League, he would prefer the European competition. Having won the coveted trophy twice in his 26 year career, Ferguson would be looking for one more before his retirement.
