EPL News: Wenger lamented Fabregas’s mental situation as Hughes blasts Young for dangerous tackle
Arsene Wenger has come out and suggested after his team’s latest loss to Newcastle United that his star midfielder Cesc Fabregas is suffering from a bit of a mental crisis. Wenger’s team lost at the Emirates Stadium to Newcastle United due to a fantastically
headed goal by Andy Carroll, the Magpies striker. Carroll’s header capped off a horrible week for the Gunners as they lost in their mid-week UEFA Champions League match against Shaktar Donetsk as well. If that wasn’t enough, Cesc Fabregas’s display after returning
from his hamstring injury against Newcastle was absolutely abysmal. The Spanish midfielder found it hard to get his game under way against Chris Hughton’s men.
However, Arsenal will be more worried about the fact that they lost a fantastic opportunity to gain ground on Chelsea as the Blues also lost on the weekend against Liverpool F.C. Arsene Wenger spoke after the match about Fabregas’s frame of mind as he said,
"Cesc, I think, still played a little bit restricted. He has no real pain, but is still a bit affected I feel, it is still there in his head."
Arsene Wenger was glad at the fact that Robin Van Persie, Arsenal’s Dutch striker made his comeback from injury as a second half substitute against Newcastle United as the Dutchman was out prior to the match for two months with an ankle injury. Wenger was
quick to dispel any beliefs that the centre forward was fully fit as he said, "It is a plus, but you can see he is not ready. We pushed him in too early because I had to do something. You saw it was very difficult for us to score a goal and there is always
a set-piece or a cross or a pass where he can make a difference."
Wenger also lamented on the fact that Sami Nasri has some injury troubles of his own as the month of November brings a heavy schedule of both European club football matches as the well an extensive amount of football in the English Premier League. Wenger
spoke about Samir’s injury issues when he said, "Samir has a calf problem that will be assessed tomorrow on Monday. We think it is small." Nasri was withdrawn from the match during the first half of the encounter against Newcastle United due to the calf injury.
Regardless, Wenger was careful when he was asked to comment on his private life in the wake of allegations that have been levelled at him by some quarters of the British press. Speaking after his side’s loss to Newcastle, the former Monaco manager said,
"I arrived 14 years ago and you know what happened and I promised myself that I would never comment anymore, because for 14 years I have been insulted everywhere in England, and never with any truth. I promised myself I would never speak about my private life
anymore."
On the other hand, Mark Hughes, Fulham’s manager has come out and criticized Luke Young, the Aston Villa full back for his horrible challenge on Carlos Salcido. It was a dangerous tackle by the Englishman which left the Mexican wing back with ankle ligament
damage, an injury which can keep him out for over three weeks.
Mark Hughes, the former Manchester City manager commented on Carlos Salcido’s injury as he said, “It doesn't look good in fairness. He's in a boot at the moment, I’ve seen the tackle on video and the lad's gone over the top and I would imagine its ligament
damage. I don't want to say how long but it'll be a number of weeks." Fulham F.C next play Chelsea on Wednesday in their next English Premier League encounter whereas Arsenal make a long trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers to play Mick McCarthy’s Wolves.
