EPL Review – Fantasy Premier League – Gameweek 18 – Part 2
With Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle United’s results and best players analysed, it is now time to move on to Manchester United, Sunderland and Manchester City
Kenny Dalglish was left rueing all his side’s missed chances and wondering what Blackburn Rovers goal keeper, Mark Bunn, had for breakfast that day. Alan Pardew managed to keep Newcastle United’s fine run going and Andre Villas-Boas and his Chelsea side were held to a frustrating draw at home.
Yet, it was not all doom and gloom in the Barclays Premier League.
Manchester United 5 – 0 Wigan Athletic
Sir Alex Ferguson is enjoying a goal fest this festive period as are all the Manchester United fans, as his side thrashed Wigan Athletic all over the Old Trafford in a 5-0 rout.
Antonio Valencia, Ji Sung Park and Dimitar Berbatov all managed to their names on the score sheet with Berbatov bagging a hat trick to give any Fantasy Premier League manager who picked him a great Christmas present.
It was also a field day for other players as five different Manchester United players managed to bag an assist. Patrice Evra, Darren Gibson, Valencia, Park and Michael Carrick all helped set up the goals.
On the other hand it was a bad day to have any Wigan Athletic player in ones Fantasy team as no one managed to earn any amount of points worthy of a mention.
It was a gameweek where it would be very difficult for a Fantasy Premier League manager to go wrong if he had any Manchester United player in their squad. Phil Jones was a noteworthy absentee, with many managers taking to the young centre half, yet apart from that almost every player had a decent return in terms of points.
Manchester United top point scorers:
Dimitar Berbatov – Forward – 17 points
Antonio Valencia – Midfielder – 13 points
Park Ji Sung – Midfielder – 12 points
Patrice Evra – Defender – 9 points
Anders Lindegaard – Goal Keeper – 7 points
Sunderland 1 – 1 Everton
The home side continued to get their season back on track as Martin O’Neil managed to get his team to grind out a hard fought draw against David Moyes’ inconsistent Everton.
Jack Colback managed to give his side the lead with a well taken goal which also earned the player three bonus points, after being set up by fellow midfielder, Stephane Sessegnon.
On the other end of the pitch, Leighton Baines salvaged the game for the team from Merseyside and he dispatched a perfectly taken penalty into the back of the opposition’s net to level the score. This was after Leon Osman was fouled in the area in what many agree to be a controversial decision by the referee for the penalty.
Apart from a handful of players on either side it was a low point scoring affair that many managers will be looking to forget, though for a change Sunderland players finally managed to get some points for the few managers that were brave enough to have them in their squads.
Sunderland top point scorers:
Jack Colback – Midfielder – 10 points
Everton top point scorers:
Leighton Baines – Defender – 11 points
