EPL Review of News - Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers
Arsenal:
Arsene Wenger’s new signing Koscielny will serve a ban of two matches after his appeal against his sending off in the crucial match against West Ham United was dismissed by the FA. He will not feature against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. The 25-year-old
was shown a straight red for his challenger from behind on West Ham United’s attacker.
Although, Arsenal were able to snatch all three points at home but their defensive problems for the future increased after that red card, as their key defenders are either injured or not performing well. Koscielny is one of the few players who were shown
a red card on their debut. He was first carded against Liverpool in a season-opener match.
Aston Villa:
Aston Villa’s new manager and their unsettled striker, John Carew seem to have called a truce after their argument last weekend. The duo held talks on Monday after Carew's initial surge against his manager through an interview on Saturday provoked an angry
reaction.
Late on Monday night, Aston Villa issued a statement which said that the matter had been dealt with internally and was then resolved. Carew had accused Houllier of being bad-mannered after being dared to prove that he deserved a new deal at Aston Villa.
Villa manager replied by saying that Carew was "stupid" and urged him to stop "living in the past." Now the pair, publicly at least, looks to have drawn a line under the affair.
Birmingham City:
Birmingham City’s boss does not anticipate any progress regarding his midfielder Larsson's new contract with the club until next summers. The City midfielder will be out of contract at the end of this season and thus free to talk to other clubs about his
possible transfer. Earlier, there were rumours that the former Gunners' player was finally set to put pen to paper on a new deal at his current club after negotiations had been taking place for more than 12 months.
City’s manager, Alex McLeish said, “The last contact (regarding Larsson's contract) was a couple of months ago. I know Julia Shelton (City's head of football administration) has been liaising with Seb's agent. So, I guess if anything is going to happen,
it will be in the next break (transfer window)."
Bolton Wanderers:
Owen Coyle hopes to see Kevin Davies establish himself as an England regular and is confident that the forward has plenty to offer at that level.
Coyle said, "I would have loved for him to be given longer because I thought he would have been a real thorn in their side, and I think if he is given that opportunity again we will all see his quality. He is so patriotic and desperate to represent his country,
and to have that sort of player wanting to wear the shirt with immense pride, it can add another 10 per cent to him."
