EPL Special Report: Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson to invest in firepower at Anfield to help Fernando Torres (Part 1)
It seems like the Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has finally found the solution to his problems. It was an old problem to begin with; one that had constantly been bothering the Reds so imagine the experts’ relief when they got to know the former Fulham manager
was going to do something about.
Like a leaking tap that keeps constantly bothering but at the same time is enough to bear with was Liverpool’s problem of having a second striker still prevails. Every team needs to have a second striker or a shadow striker that assists the man upfront and
is there to provide the helping hand in making an attack.
The Red part of Merseyside have long since been in search of such a man and many times they have tried to sign in players to fill that void but from their performances it is quite obvious that they have been unsuccessful in their objective.
Reds have one of the best strikers up front; the goal scoring machine Fernando Torres or El Nino is what he is more affectionately known as but though the striker has an astounding goal scoring average with the club he still needs a man to help him deliver
where he misses.
The 26-year-old Spanish striker has time and again stated that he can’t be the lone gun up ahead and therefore needs a man to partner upfront. He even threatened to leave the club in summer if more quality players were not signed but that threat was avoided
narrowly by some clever antics from Hodgson.
He trailed the striker after the 2010 FIFA World Cup and then finally committed him to Anfield again after signing a couple of players but so far they have their worth to prove. In a stunning move Hodgson threw Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea for 5 million Pounds
and instead got his hands on Joe Cole the English international and for free.
Joe Cole was the person along with Milan Jovanovic who had to assist Joe Cole in scoring goals but so they all have flunked for the worst, their performances so far being worthless.
After the recent match against FC Utrecht in Europa League Hodgson has finally taken out his knives and went against Cole saying that he is not providing the services he was hired for. In the match Cole barely showed flair from his game shoes. He was uninspiring
and over all gave a lack of lustrous performance.
Now though Cole came via free transfer predictions are flying that suggest a Robbie Keane like saga might unfold with Tottenham Hotspurs as the other club, yet again.
Hodgson does realize that Torres can’t perform unless he has a partner upfront who can also be used as an attacking midfielder. Cole was the perfect player who could be used as a free flowing diamond formation midfielder but disappointment has led eyes to
look elsewhere and there is another Cole who is on the rise that has interested Hodgson.
