EPL Transfer News: Real Madrid manager not interested in signing Drogba & Adebayor
The Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has at last clarified that he is no longer interested in signing players from the English Premier League. Earlier, Mourinho had a large list of players for his dream team that he desired of putting together at Bernabeu. Most of these players were from EPL but he hasn’t been able to acquire even a single one of them.
The players he desperately sought were Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, Chelsea’s Didier Drogba and Ashley Cole along with Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor. But now the Portuguese manager has informed that he is no longer interested in buying either Drogba or Adebayor. This comes after he withdrew interest in acquiring his other two major targets from EPL, Gerrard and Cole. This time the world class manager has stated that he has the strikers he needs at Los Blancos.
Adebayor didn’t play in the match against Liverpool which Manchester City won 3-0. There were rumors sparking from Spain that Mourinho was on the verge of signing the Togolese player but Mourinho contradicted those claims saying that they were nothing but smoke. While talking to media he clarified, “I think no chance”. He explained that although Real Madrid had no financial problems but he simply wasn’t interested in the signing, not anymore. “The historical dimension of Real Madrid and Manchester City you can't compare. But the economical dimension you can compare. And maybe they will win (the Premier League). So I think at the minute, City is the club to keep their best players and to buy the players that nobody expects them to buy.” He argued.
Mourinho also brought forth reasons why Adebayor himself might reject the bid if he is to be offered. He said, “I don't think, just one year after buying Emmanuel from Arsenal, he's the player to leave”. Mourinho said that he was unambiguous about his denial and lack of interest in signing players from his original dream team list. The 46-year-old reiterated that he had no chance of signing Ivorian from Chelsea when he said, “Again, no chance”. The Portuguese admitted that the Sheikh powered City was in fact making some problems for them with their high money. He elucidated that their cash flow and prices had inflated the Eastlands, created a disturbance in the market and therefore it has become harder to sign in players.
Mourinho had to face defeat against the City manager Roberto Mancini when he lost for the Serbian defender Aleksander Kolarov to him in the transfer period. Mourinho commented on the situation saying, “I understand that if someone wants to compete with them for a player it is very difficult, they are dominant in the market. The player they say they want is the player they get”. Admitting his interest in the star defender, he exclaimed that the price for him was too much, “I was interested in Kolarov when I came here but I couldn't compete with them as they went to values that I couldn't. If they have the money they can do it, if they have the ambition to win the Premier League they can do it either”.
Mourinho also commented on Liverpool’s performance saying that he was disappointed and expected more from them. He stated that though their new manager Roy Hodgson was trying hard to revive the club he will have a much harder task than he anticipates. He also announced the teams that he believed will conqueror EPL this season, “I believe Chelsea, Man United and Man City, that's it”. On Liverpool’s chances he added, “It's very difficult for Hodgson as over the last three years they have been getting worse, worse and worse. He needs time”.
