EPL Transfer Update: Athletic Bilbao's Andoni Iraola wanted by Tottenham Hotspur
The latest reports from White Hart Lane have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are linked with the Athletic Bilbao defender Andoni Iraola.
The right back has been in impressive form since the start of this season and because of that he has caught the attention of Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp.
The Bilbao defender is considered to be one of the most useful players to have on team and the reason for that is the player’s adaptability to various positions on field.
For instance, modern football requires their flanking defenders to act as secondary wingers which eventually grants the wingers a will to swap wings or even perform duties as second or shadow strikers. This also allows a greater number of chances at scoring
goals.
Iraola does just that and therefore it’s not just the footballing powerhouse from England that wants to avail the services of the defender but many other clubs from Spanish La Liga have also tried to sign him in.
The player has assisted in many goals over the past 7 seasons and if that wasn’t enough he has also scored 30 goals.
The player has a 25 million pound release clause in his contract but discarding the money factor, the Whites have announced that they are extremely interested in acquiring the 28-year-old Spanish midfielder’s services.
Reliable sources have confirmed that Iraola will be out of contract by 2012. The fact that the player still has a running contract with Bilbao is one of the main reason for his hyped up price.
At the moment, Spurs are in great shortage of right backs. Alan Hutton is performing his duties at the place. He can’t be considered as a regular candidate for the job hence Redknapp has realized some new blood needs to be pumped in the team.
Most of the Spurs defenders are out injured and that has caused a major calamity in the ranks of the South London club. Nevertheless, it is expected that if Spurs try to sign the player in the winter transfer window the price is going to be lowered down.
