EPL Transfer Update: Tottenham Hotspurs looking to land Andoni Iraola

Tottenham are reported to be leading the race to sign side back Andoni Iraola, according to numerous media reports that have flown out of Spain.
The side back has gone on to become one of the highest scoring defenders in the La Liga and as a result has often attracted a lot of attention from other big clubs in Europe. The player has gone on to score around thirty goals and delivered numerous assists
over the course of the last seven seasons that he has spent with Athletic Bilbao.
However despite the fact that Iraola has a hefty 25 million Pounds release clause in his contract, Tottenham are going to go ahead and try and land the player. This is because with the players contract due to run out in 2012, the team are bound to let him
go for far less than their initial asking price, so that they don't risk losing the player for free eventually.
Iraola is currently 28-years-old and could help provide some much needed experience at the back for Tottenham. However the fact that his release clause is set at 25 million Pounds, seems to be a laughable matter as the team are bound to let the player go
for almost a quarter of that price.
On the other hand Tottenham often use Gareth Bale as a left back, Iraola could come in and play as a right back for the team. What this would do for Tottenham is that it would make them quite possibly one of the most lethal teams in Europe when it comes
to flank attack and as a result it could significantly increase their chances of performing better both domestically and in European competitions.
However Redknapp is still considered to be pondering a move for Iraola and is not a hundred percent ready to go all out and land the player just yet. It is now going to be a wait till January to see if the manager does end up going ahead with the deal to
sign the Spanish side back.
