EPL Transfer news: Aston Villa confirm Jean Makoun signing
Aston Villa have snapped up Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun for an undisclosed fee.
The 27-year-old has passed the medical at the club and would be with them until the summer of 2014. It is believed that the player would be eligible for selection once his work permit and other formalities have been taken care of, which may take up to 14
days.
“I am thrilled to be here at Aston Villa. I am really, really happy and very proud to have joined a great club. Villa have been after me for quite a while, so I am delighted it's finally happened. I can't wait to get started now,” stated the 27-year-old.
The player hailed his previous club Lyon for giving him an opportunity to play. Also, Makoun believed that the Champions League experience he had under his belt was amazing but would want to chase new challenges with Aston Villa.
The midfielder was impressed by the ambitions of Aston Villa and wants to help them achieve their goals in the future.
Villa manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Houllier was also delighted to have signed the player. The manager explained that Jean has the ability to play as a defensive cover along with being a box-to-box player. That gives him the diversity to play anywhere in front of the defence
and his physical presence would really be helpful for the club. Also, Houllier was delighted to have a player who has played Champions League football with his previous clubs, Lille and Lyon.
“He is a nice guy too. I think he will settle well in the dressing room,” stated the Villa boss.
It was Makoun’s 25-yard screamer that denied the all star Real Madrid team a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals in the 2009-10 Champions League.
Real Madrid, with all their might, could not come back from that goal as Lyon qualified for the semi-final, but were eventually defeated by finalists Bayern Munich.
