EPL Transfers: Liverpool signings Roy Hodgson should make in limited resources - Part 1
The 31st of August marks the closing of the transfer window. Most teams have already done most of their shopping but there are many teams out there that are still scouring the market.
There are mainly two reasons if a team is still in the market looking for players. Firstly, they must be extremely rich so even though they would have brought in the players they wanted, these teams are still looking for last minute changes and chances to bring in a world class player who has the ability to win a game.
Secondly, only those clubs will be looking for players in the market who are facing a financial crisis. They would be looking for last minute deals and value worth deals - both of which come in the last moments of the transfer period.
Liverpool is one of those clubs that is still scouring through the market and the reason for that is their current fragility because of financial reasons. They are still awaiting the Chinese company QSL’s owner Kenny Huang to buy them. If the sale materializes, the club will have loads of money to spend and buy in new players. This is the only reason the club is waiting to make some heavy adjustments.
Their new manager Roy Hodgson has informed that he is expecting a lot from the new owners. They too have conveyed that they will be providing enough funds that the former Fulham manager is satisfied and Liverpool has a good chance of winning the league in the coming season.
Huang has even stated that the club could buy Barcelona’s Lionel Messi if they wanted to, once the manager is in charge. However, it will be interesting to note that the coveted world class Argentinean striker has a 250 million buyout clause and with such money, one could rather buy clubs. Nevertheless, the businessman plays in the millions and has enough financial backing to commit the outrageous.
Buyers or no buyers, the Liverpool Football Club realistically needs to make these 5 signings to gain advantage in the next season:
5- Brad Jones: substitute goal keeper
The Brazilian goal keeper Diego Cavalieri is a wanted man back home. He has been called back by clubs quite often and Hodgson at last needs to find a new shot stopper that can substitute Pepe Reina.
A possible candidate is the 28-year-old man from Middlesbrough Brad Jones. Their glove man has been part of the Australian national team and has learnt a lot under maestro Mark Schwarzer.
The Aussie is also considered a homegrown player and was part of the 2010 World Cup squad. Unfortunately, he had to leave because of family issues. Liverpool is desperately trying to acquire him and have already placed a 2 million pound bid on him.
4-Wayne Bridge: left back
This position will prove to be one of toughest obstacles for Hodgson to fill. Having a good left back is a rare gift for any team and there’s no dearth of talent.
They have already tried to sign in Manchester City’s defender Wayne Bridge but the process is stagnant because the clubs are not on mutual terms with the contract. In the meanwhile, they have re-signed their previous option Fabio Aurelio. The Brazilian was refused a renewal on his contract because they were certain of finding a replacement for him. So far they have failed.
All other clubs have found a better left back in time but Liverpool has continued to struggle in the department. After Aleksandar Kolarov entry with the Eastlands, it seems very likely that an agreement will be reached before the end of the season and Bridge will be playing for Anfield.
