EPL Update: Carlos Tevez finally makes a comeback- leads Manchester City to 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic (Part 2)
Pablo Zabaleta was yet another man who was impressive in the midfield. He seemed creative and tried to score too. His try in the game’s middle was about to produce a winner but the ball just went past the woodwork leaving the Citizens still searching for
hope.
The 20-yard-shot was one of his top notch tries and it was also one of the closest a player on the field had on scoring from long range. Soon after that, came the moment when Tevez scored; of a long ball from Hart that was miscued by Diame. Tevez made no
mistake like Diame and instead capitalized in scoring the goal for Manchester City as he lobbed the ball with class over Al Habsi, who was left standing helpless.
The second half started with Eastlands fuelled up and that kind of energy nearly caused silence again at DW Stadium when in the first minute after the game resumed, Spanish player David Silva made an intelligent cross for Tevez. However, Tevez wasn’t ready
for it and he, therefore, missed the ball from landing in his feet right in front of the goal.
Being such an easy chance, this should have been scored by the 26-year-old forward. But, it wasn’t the first time Tevez had let down his team this season. During the last 4 matches also, he missed out on several opportunities to score which has lead to a
concern in the Blue part of Manchester City. Tevez got another chance to score later on, but despite a pretty good run that took him in to the six yard box, Wigan defender, Steve Gohouri made a good tackle to stop the onslaught.
Moments before Zabaleta made an attempt to score from a tough angle, the ball went pacing away to the Wigan keeper, who caught it. It was after this that the time came when Gohouri was warned over by Tevez. It seemed like Wigan were about to give in, especially
after the 68th minute, when a slackened ball from Gohouri came to Tevez. No one really came onto the player as fast as they should have as Tevez blasted the ball towards Al Habsi.
Some sort of a similar happening was witnessed near the 70th minute as Figueroa failed to figure a leaving call while Tevez became the hard worker getting rewarded as he stole the ball. Later, he lofted it right in front of Yaya Toure, who mercilessly
stabbed the ball into the net making the score 2-0, which remained that way till the end of the match.
Eastlands, despite not being at home, were now in full swing and their tempo was rising. After the second goal, Tevez again got involved in a close third attempt that occurred in the 74th minute. It was a left-footed effort from the man who had
joined Manchester City from their arch rivals, Manchester United, in 2009. Disappointingly, the ball failed to reach the back of the net and instead went inches past its face.
Later on, the substitute, Adam Johnson, nearly added a third goal to the score board for Man City but his shot deflected off Ronnie Stam and struck the wood work. In the end, it became clear that Mancini had done his homework this time. Tevez was, without
doubt, the man who stole the spotlight from others and it was a relief to finally see him perform up to his standards.
