EPL Update: Inter Milan face injury horror, Tottenham Hotspurs have leadership problems
Inter Milan and its injury issues:
It will be an injury struck Italian side that will have to face the underdogs from England. The defending champions of the tournament have struck a low point as many of their players are out injured at the moment.
So far in their domestic league, they have played 7 matches and scored 14 points. They are positioned at 3rd place and are breathing down the necks of their arch rivals and derby team, AC Milan.
They will be missing the services of Diego Milito, Esteban Cambiasso, Mancini and McDonald Mariga in the Wednesday fixture of Champions League against Tottenham Hotspurs.
It is reckoned that Thiago Motta and Jonathan Biabiany will also not be participating in the match. The injury scare came after the weekend match against Calgari.
The possible starting lineup for Inter Milan is Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Samuel, Chivu, Javier Zanetti, Wesley Sneijder, Djan Stankovic, Joel Chukwuma, Samuel Eto'o and Philippe Coutinho.
Tottenham Hotspurs and their leadership issues:
Well, their woes are fabricated out of pure bad luck. The men from White Hart Lane will be missing Rafael van der Vaart, who has been suspended. However, fire power isn't their biggest worry.
The reason that they are anxious is because they don’t have a leader in the person. For instance, they are up against the Nerazzurri, a team that has won a treble last season including Serie A and Champions League. One of the crucial advantages for the Italian
is that they have many leaders in their team.
For example, if Zanetti is unable to play, then Lucio, Sneijder, Eto'o and Coutinho all have the ability to step up the game and come forth with a game-winning performance.
On the other hand, the Whites will be without their skipper, Ledley King as he was called off the Saturday fixture against Fulham. Later, a medical team revealed that the player was facing groin injury and therefore, it was advisable to bench him and give
him rest.
That isn't the end of their troubles as their pivotal players in defence and offence, Jermain Defoe and Michael Dawson, are also under rehabilitation because of their long term injuries. Both were injured when they were called for international duty for
England.
Their absence has also been noticed in the English Premier League where Spurs are at the 5th position, trailed by Manchester United.
For Spurs, Younes Kaboul is on the return list after he received a knock in an earlier game. He will be looking forward to star in the starting line up and would be featuring in the central defence along with Sebastien Bassong and William Gallas, well that
is if they don’t manage to get injured in the remaining hours.
The 62 year old manager Redknapp will be opting for a 4-5-1 formation as they travel as guests to San Siro. Peter Crouch will be looking forward to shine as usual. The pressure on his shoulders will be immense as he would be the sole star striker in the
team.
One thing is for sure and that is if Inter’s Spanish manager, Rafael Benitez is in for an easy game he is badly mistaken as the English club is continually improving their form and have the capability to surprise bigger teams with upsets.
The possible starting lineup for Tottenham Hotspurs is Heurelho Gomes, Alan Hutton, William Gallas, Sebastien Bassong, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Aaron Lennon, Tom Huddlestone, Wilson Palacios, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Peter Crouch.
