EPL news: Aston Villa looking to reinforce midfield; Gerard Houllier sets eyes on Momo Sissoko
Aston Villa's manager Gerard Houllier is reported to be interested in bringing in a holding midfielder to try and strengthen the team's midfield. The manager has been linked with the likes of Michael Carrick in the past, but Carrick,
despite being as good as he is, really isn't a player who can constantly win the ball.
As a result, the manager has turned his attention to Juventus midfielder Momo Sissoko. The player has been highly impressive for the Italian side, but it appears that the team are looking to get rid of their twenty-five-year-old
Malian international for a bargain six million pounds.
In Villa's last game against Liverpool, the team went on to lose by a whopping three goals to one. This was mainly due to the fact that Liverpool dominated the midfield, while the Villa side seemed to have no real midfielder amongst
their ranks. The team has managed to produce a good number of side midfielders over the years, but they still greatly lack a player who can hold the ball and dictate the game in the middle of the park.
Mohammed Sissoko last played in the Premier League for Liverpool where he spent a rather good three years. The player was highly impressive during his stay with the club and the only reason for him leaving the team was due to the
fact that he lost his starting eleven spot to Javier Mascherano.
The player went on to join Juventus in 2008 and has been one of the standout players for the team. However, he seems to be suffering the same fate at Juventus as he did at Liverpool as he is being forced to sit on the bench and
play second choice to the likes of Felipe Melo.
If Sissoko does manage to make the move to Villa Park, it could potentially begin the rebuilding of the side like Houllier had promised. The manager promised to take the team back to winning ways once again and the way
things are going for the team, it seems like that time may come even sooner than was initially anticipated by the experts, due to the usually intelligent transfers Houllier is making and/or plans on making.
