EPL news: Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool
Birmingham City
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish hailed the impact of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Phillips-c20763 on the team and comically stated that he would need Phillips for 20 more years to score important goals.
The 37-year-old scored the winning goal against Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round fixture. Phillips thought his time was over at the club but McLeish decided to play him in the Coventry match. That decision paid dividends as Philips scored the winning
goal just 17 minutes from time in the 3-2 win.
“What can you say about the wee man? He's a world-class finisher. Kevin is a bit of a lucky mascot for me. If I'm lucky enough to be a manager for the next 20 years, I'll probably keep signing him,” joked the Birmingham Boss.
Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean was in doubt over the fitness of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roque-Santa-Cruz-c31778 who suffered a groin injury in the FA Cup. Rovers lost 3-1 to Aston Villa, which knocked them out of the tournament.
Santa Cruz would not be fit to play against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Wednesday at Ewood Park and perhaps will miss the fixture against Wigan as well.
Cruz, who Rovers borrowed from Manchester City for the remainder of the 2010-11 season, could only play the first 10 minutes of the match and was taken off as he was limping on the pitch.
“Roque tweaked his groin. We got him off the pitch, iced up and hopefully it will settle down. I think he will be doubtful for the Tottenham game but hopefully he should be okay for Wigan,” confirmed the Rovers manager.
Blackpool
Blackpool’s energetic manager Ian Holloway was pleased with the signing of midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andy-Reid-c6050, who joined the side from Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.
Following the signing of Ghanaian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sulley-Muntari-c34312, Black Cats manager Steve Bruce did not require the services of the 28-year-old and has offloaded the player to newly promoted Blackpool.
Reid joined Sunderland from Charlton Athletic in 2008 for 4 million pounds and has since made 70 first team appearances. Reid is the fourth player to leave the Stadium of Light in the January 2011 transfer window, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Healy-c10499 and Darren
Bent being the others.
The Blackpool manager stated that Reid would be a perfect addition to the side and vowed to get the best out of him. The manager added that Reid’s cumulative transfer fee has been 12 million pounds, which shows his real worth.
