EPL news recap: Arsene Wenger says belief is the key
Arsene Wenger is not a happy man at the moment. He recently saw his side suffer a shocking defeat to npower Championship side Ipswich town in the first leg of the Carling cup semi-final. However, the Arsenal manager maintains that his young charges have
the belief to bounce back from that loss and get back on track to end their long-standing trophy drought this season.
Wenger said, “You think we are all arrogant, confident people, but when you do not have success for a while, the doubt creeps in quickly. It is about belief. (New http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 manager) Kenny Dalglish has been in football all his life, and if he speaks about
that, it is really the truth. We have belief, yes.”
Arsenal have failed to win a single trophy since their 2005 F.A Cup victory against Manchester United; however, the manager believes his young team can bring an end to that dry spell this season. Wenger said, “We are on a good run in the Premier League,
we believe in our strengths, that is why it is always important to respond strongly to disappointments. We are of course sorry (for the defeat against Ipswich) and we want to put things right in the second leg.”
The Gunners face Ipswich at the Emirates Stadium next week in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final. But for now, Arsene Wenger will be fully focused on Arsenal’s upcoming match against West Ham United over the weekend. He claimed that if the Gunners
play like they did against Ipswich town, they would surely go on to lose Saturday’s match.
The Arsenal manager said, “We had a completely average performance (against Ipswich). We will not play like that at West Ham and we want to win at West Ham. It is a Premier League game and is a derby, this season the Premier League has been very tight in
every game and so we expect us to produce a top-level performance to win the game, that is what we want to achieve.”
Anything less than a victory against the Hammers will put a huge dent in Arsenal’s title chances, especially since Manchester United have a chance to open up a huge lead at the summit on Sunday. Let’s see whether the Gunners can snatch all three points when
they travel to Upton Park on Saturday.
