EPL transfer gossip:  City still interested in Bosnian Edin Dzeko
Manchester City have not given up on Edin Dzeko, the young Wolfsburg striker. City manager Roberto Mancini feels that his side rely too heavily on Carlos Tevez and has asked the owners at City to look into the possibility of bringing another striker in the
January transfer window.
Mancini is justified in wanting more attacking options, especially after the outburst by Tevez claiming that he could quit football. That sort of statement is not very encouraging for a manager and even though Tevez is a world class striker, Mancini has
been forced to look elsewhere.
Manchester City had a chance to sign Dzeko in the summer, but a price could not be agreed upon and the deal did not go through. At that time Mancini felt the £40m demanded by Wolfsburg to be too much, but desperate times call for desperate measures and Mancini
is all ready to bring Dzeko to City.
The youngster has also been linked with Juventus FC Torino and other big clubs; he has an efficiency rating of a goal or assist every 135.0 minutes. He has been essential to his side’s good form this season and has the potential to be developed into a complete
striker. City are willing to provide that opportunity.
Dzeko is a member of the Bosnian national team and in 2009 had the honour of being named the Bosnian Footballer of the Year. The same year he was amongst the 30 players nominated for the Ballon d’Or and made history by surpassing Diego Klimowicz to become
the highest goal scorer by scoring 59 goals in 96 appearances.
It has been reported that while Mancini is in the market for buying strikers, he is also looking to sell a few. With Tevez emerging as the victor amongst the many strikers, Mancini feels Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz are no longer needed.
The two strikers may very well be on their way out, which would give Mancini the cash to pursue more useful investments. Not only that, but their departure will undoubtedly reduce City’s wage bill, they may be the richest club in the Premier League but no
one likes to pay millions for benchwarmers.
